Clay Guida and 10 Fighters Who Are Never in a Boring Fight

First LastJun 1, 2011

As Clay Guida prepares for his showdown with WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis on Saturday, fans will be anticipating the action that is about to ensue inside the cage.

"The Carpenter" is a wildman and has produced some very entertaining fights—some of which have been fight of the year candidates.

The fight will be free and broadcast live on Spike TV this weekend, and it's one you don't want to miss. Both fighters are in line for a title shot, taking their determination and will to win to an all-time high. Combine that with the granite chin of Guida and the dynamic striking of Pettis, and it will be one great fight.

Like Guida, the following fighters are also never in a boring fight and have produced many fireworks whether they won or lost.

No. 10: Clay Guida

1 of 10

Clay "The Carpenter" Guida has been in several bouts that were named fight of the year.

In his bouts with Tyson Griffin, Diego Sanchez and Roger Huerta, he didn't win any of them but showed the heart of a true warrior and was awarded "fight of the night" honors.

As a wrestling-oriented fighter, Guida has built a fanbase around his relentless attack and never-ending stamina. Many of his fights are won around these attributes, and they can be the most important ones a fighter has.

When the going gets tough, the tougher get tougher. Guida proves that over and over again.

No. 9: Melvin Manhoef

2 of 10

Whenever Dutch-Surinamese kickboxer Melvin Manhoef enters the ring, fans can expect one of two things—someone is getting knocked out or submitted.

Of Manhoef's 24 victories in MMA, 23 have come by knockout, including many one-punch knockouts. He displays brutal power in both his kicks and punches, and opponents sometimes don't stay around long enough to show the effects.

Of his nine losses, six have come by submission, and it is his weakest area. His opponents are usually quick to attempt a takedown, and it's never long before they get a submission.

Out of 34 matches, Manhoef has only been the distance twice.

No. 8: Stephan Bonnar

3 of 10

Boxing had their ultimate blood and guts warrior in Arturo Gatti. For MMA fans, they have Stephan Bonnar.

Blood always equals drama, and there is never a shortage of it in fight featuring "The American Psycho." The nickname couldn't be more suited for this Ultimate Fighter finalist, and despite only winning one "fight of the night" award, has made a career out of fighting for the fans.

With a 13-7 record, Bonnar has had his share of ups-and-downs, but he always finds a way to bounce back. He is currently on a two-fight win streak after losing three in a row.

His next fight will be against Karlos Vemola on UFC on Versus 5.

No. 7: Stefan Struve

4 of 10

6'11" heavyweight fighter Stefan Struve is the owner of the some of the very best comebacks to ever take place inside the Octagon.

Only one of his 27 bouts has gone the distance. His three losses in the UFC were by TKO, including his most recent bout versus undefeated fighter Travis Browne at UFC 130.

In fights with Christian Morecraft and Denis Stojnic, Struve received a brutal onslaught of punches before pulling off comeback finishes in the second round of each. His fight with Stojnic was one of the bloodiest fights in a long time, and he still managed to pull off a submission for the win.

No. 6: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

5 of 10

Former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was one of the most exciting fighters in Pride Fighting Championship, and he is in the UFC.

He has only been to the scorecards three times in his 24-fight career, and this includes numerous title bouts as well as tournament bouts.

16 of his 19 wins have come by knockout, and he has a variety of ways of knocking his opponents out. His muay-thai attack is very dynamic and dangerous, and he has used it to his advantage in every one of his wins.

His next fight will be at UFC 134 versus former opponent Forrest Griffin. It will be a rematch of a fight he lost in his UFC debut.

No. 5: Wanderlei Silva

6 of 10

Wanderlei Silva may be the most aggressive fighter in MMA, and it has helped him obtain one of the biggest fan-bases in the sport.

"The Axe Murderer" loves to fight for the fans, and this is why fans love to watch him fight.

Whether it's him or his opponent on the receiving end of a knockout, it's what Silva fights for. His 2007 bout versus Chuck Liddell didn't end by knockout, but it was one of the best fights to take place in the UFC.

Silva is a good example of what it means to never be in a boring fight, and it has left him susceptible to being the victim of numerous knockouts after an extensive 15-year fighting career as one of the sport's most exciting fighters.

No. 4: Carlos Condit

7 of 10

The main reason former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit is never in a boring fight is because he loves to fight and beat his opponents at their own game.

In his most recent bout versus Dan Hardy, the British fighter had trash-talked preceding the bout, hoping to get Condit to play into his game. What Hardy didn't realize is that Condit was fully prepared to fight his game no matter what he said. He knocked out the former title challenger in the first round for the first time in his career.

In all of his UFC bouts, including those with Martin Kampmann, Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald, Condit showed the heart and chin of a very determined fighter, and this is something fans appreciate.

His next fight will be against Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 132.

No. 3: Diego Sanchez

8 of 10

Ultimate Fighter 1 winner Diego Sanchez has been awarded "fight of the night" in four of his last six bouts. These include fights with Martin Kampmann, Paulo Thiago, Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson.

The former lightweight title challenger is one of the strongest fighters mentally, and he has only one stoppage loss on his record due to a cut suffered in his title bout versus BJ Penn.

He recently overcame adversity in his bout with Kampmann. He was bloodied and bruised in the first round but found the strength to make a comeback in the second and third rounds to win a unanimous decision.

His next bout will be against former champion Matt Hughes, but potential bouts with fighters like Rick Story and Condit are really intriguing.

No. 2: Chris Lytle

9 of 10

After Chris Lytle changed his style when he lost a disputed decision versus Matt Serra in the Ultimate Fighter 3 finale, he has put on many memorable fights in the UFC.

In his 12 UFC bouts since that fight, he has won five "fight of the night" awards, two "submission of the night" awards and one "knockout of the night" award.

His next fight will be against Dan Hardy at UFC on Versus 5, and that is one fight fans shouldn't miss.

Hardy called out Lytle after his third loss in a row, and he is hungry for the victory. Lylte is also coming of a loss and was contemplating retirement so expect to see fireworks in this fight. It may be the last time for one of them.

No. 1: Nick Diaz

10 of 10

It was announced today that Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz will meet UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 137.

Diaz is one of the most fearless fighters in the sport, and he loves to beat his opponents where they are strongest. He also loves to taunt his opponents at the beginning of the fight.

His most recent win was over Paul Daley, who is one of the most powerful strikers in the division. Diaz got dropped by the former UFC fighter but came back to earn a last-second TKO over Daley in the first round.

His 2007 bout with Takanori Gomi was many fans' fight of the year.

Diaz is currently on a 10-fight win streak.
