Breaking News: More Allegations Against Terrelle Pryor, QB Controversy at OSU?
By now, it is no longer news that Jim Tressel, head coach of The Ohio State University football program, resigned earlier today amid allegations that he lied repeatedly to university officials and the NCAA. The vultures have been circling for quite some time, and it wasn't a matter of if, but when, OSU would decide to part ways with the embattled coach.
What is news, however, are the recent allegations, first reported by the website "Eleven Warriors" and verified by the Columbus Dispatch, that the NCAA is investigating claims that Terrelle Pryor, the Buckeyes' star quarterback who is suspended for the first five games of this season, received additional benefits, cars being one of them.
If the allegations are true, they could mean Pryor has played his last down for Ohio State. It also makes one wonder where this scandal, which started in December of last year, will all end. Even if Pryor is acquitted of all these new charges against him, one has to wonder how he will be received in Columbus should he step on the field this season.
The allegations also renew a debate that was once almost an afterthought: should Pryor be suspended for the entire season? The debate as to who his replacement will be will move to the forefront for interim head coach Luke Fickell.
Currently the consensus has been that senior Joe Bauserman has a slight lead, with freshman phenom Braxton Miller nipping at his heels. The current scenario also assumes that Pryor would resume as the starter after the first five games, none of which are supposed to be that hard for the Buckeyes.
Miller may still end up as the backup to Bauserman, even if Pryor is declared ineligible for the season. But it would be surprise if before it's all said and done, the freshman is starting behind center.
