Georgia, FSU Cancel Home-and-Home CFB Series, Eye Neutral-Site Game 'Soon' for Future Schedule
A planned home-and-home series between Georgia and Florida State has been canceled.
Florida State athletic director Michael Alford said in a statement on Thursday the games that were originally planned for 2027 and 2028 have been canceled due to "evolving scheduling mandates" within their respective conferences and they are working to put together a neutral-site game "soon."

Report: 24-Team CFP Gaining Steam
The original agreement between the two schools for a home-and-home series was announced in April 2019.
Florida State was set to host the first meeting on Sept. 4, 2027. The second meeting was going to take place in Georgia on Sept. 16, 2028.
In the seven years since that announcement, the college football landscape has changed dramatically. The College Football Playoff grown to include 12 teams right now, with increased support for a potential 24-team format that could be in place for the 2027 season.
There has also been significant conference realignment within the last five years. No fewer than 39 programs have joined a new conference since 2023, including Oklahoma and Texas leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. The ACC has picked up California, Stanford and SMU.
As a result of the SEC and ACC expansion, conference rules require teams to play a certain number of games against conference opponents.
The ACC will require teams to play a full nine-game conference schedule starting in 2027, with a modified version of it being implemented for 2026. SEC teams are required to face every other program in the conference once every two years, while also maintaining three annual opponents.
Florida State and Georgia have played 12 head-to-head meetings dating back to 1954. The Bulldogs lead the series 7-4-1, including a 63-3 victory in their most recent meeting in the 2023 Orange Bowl.
