Ben Fraser: "I Just Want to See How Far I Can Take It"
While many aspiring mixed martial artists talk about making it to the UFC and holding world-championships, Ben Fraser, in an attempt to make his talent speak for itself, is shying away from any bold statements.
"I just want to see how far I can take it and see how far I can go in my weight-division," explained Fraser.
Fraser, who is 1-0 in amateur mixed martial arts competition, wrestled in high school before being introduced to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Although he wasn't set on competing in mixed martial arts when he first started rolling, as is the case with many fighters, it didn't take long for Fraser aspire to compete in mixed martial arts.
"I wasn't sure if I would ever start fighting when I started Jiu-Jitsu. Once I started training MMA, I realized that I liked it and I figured I'd give it a shot. Training and helping other fighters from our club get ready for their fights inspired me to try my hand at mixed martial arts. Eventually, I wanted to get into it, try it out, and see if I could do it."
Despite his early success in the sport, Fraser is, again, careful to avoid an audacious predictions.
"Hopefully I'll have a solid record, and that's about it. I want to compete and see how well I can do."
This evening, in what will be his second opportunity to build a "solid record" in amateur competition, Fraser is slated to take on fellow lightweight Derek Gatz under the Saturday Night Fight banner at the Turvey Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan.
"I'm feeling really good; my conditioning feels good, my hands feel good, my wrestling is very good and I've been working a lot on my ground game. I'm hoping to finish this fight and not go to a decision."
Again, while Fraser refrains from talking about the UFC or championship belts, he is, however, willing to make one prediction.
"I'm going to win by submission at the end of the first or the second round."
