WWE Superstars: Cody Rhodes and 10 Wrestlers Most Deserving of a Title

Drake OzMay 27, 2011

I remember the good old days, when title reigns meant something and championship belts didn't switch hands more often than I change clothes.

But those times seem to be long gone, and the WWE has resorted to shorter reigns that have continued to diminish the prestige of all the company's championship belts.

Still, I like to pretend that being the WWE or Intercontinental Champion actually means something, even if WWE officials don't exactly share this sentiment.

So, today we're going to take a look at 10 wrestlers who are most deserving of carrying that highly coveted championship gold.

10. John Morrison

1 of 10

The one thing that's really held John Morrison back from consistently competing at the main event level is his lack of mic skills.

As a heel, he was a solid talker. But as a face, Morrison leaves a lot to be desired when cutting promos.

Yet, the guy's still incredibly over with the crowd, and his moves are as entertaining as anyone else currently on the WWE roster.

Morrison works his you know what off in the ring, and it's about time the company gives him a shot at competing for a World title.

9. Chavo Guerrero

2 of 10

Other than an ECW Championship run a few years ago, Chavo Guerrero has gotten the short end of the stick throughout most of his WWE career.

I point to his epic "feud" with Hornswoggle on Raw in 2009 as an example, when Guerrero actually lost week in and week out to a leprechaun in humiliating fashion.

Yet he's still with the company, and there's a reason why.

Guerrero's one of the most underused superstars of the last five years or so, a guy who has above-average mic skills and very good in-ring abilities.

If anything, Guerrero should get a run with championship gold—maybe the IC belt—just for putting up with the crap the creative team has written for him over the past three or four years.

8. Beth Phoenix

3 of 10

Does anyone really know why Beth Phoenix seemingly disappeared from WWE programming over the past few months?

I sure don't. But I do know that that's an asinine decision.

Leaving Beth "on the bench" so to speak would be equivalent to the Miami Heat choosing not to play LeBron James throughout the playoffs.

OK, not quite. But, now that Kharma's likely headed off of TV for a while, there's no reason to make anyone other than Beth Phoenix the face of the WWE Divas division.

After all, the Bella Twins aren't exactly doing it for me.

7. Dolph Ziggler

4 of 10

Of all the recent WWE roster moves, the one that I might understand the least is the decision to move Dolph Ziggler to Raw.

SmackDown needs main event heels like Mark Henry needs a dietician, and Ziggler would be the perfect fit on the blue brand.

Imagine feuds between Ziggler—with Vickie Guerrero by his side, of course—and Randy Orton or Ziggler and Christian, and then imagine Ziggler actually defeating one of those guys for the strap.

A title win over Orton or Christian would do wonders for Ziggler's credibility, and help further establish him as one of the WWE's next big stars.

6. Daniel Bryan

5 of 10

Why does Daniel Bryan deserve a run with a title? Because he can wrestle and put together a great feud.

During his United States Championship run, he put on some stellar matches with The Miz and John Morrison, and his feud with The Miz was one of the better mid-card feuds we've seen in the PG era.

Bryan is exciting to watch in the ring and is actually an underrated mic worker. We just don't get to see him cut very many promos.

If the WWE really wants to use Bryan correctly, an Intercontinental title feud with Wade Barrett on SmackDown (that results in Bryan winning the strap) would be a good way to go.

5. Alberto Del Rio

6 of 10

Granted, there are plenty of people who don't think Alberto Del Rio should be a World title holder this early in his career.

But to those people I say, "It's his destiny."

In all seriousness, though, Del Rio just has "it." He can really go in the ring, he's great on the mic even though he has a very thick accent, he knows how to work the crowd as a heel and he oozes charisma.

The younger fans would absolutely hate to see him defeat John Cena for the WWE Championship, which is precisely why that's what should happen.

4. R-Truth

7 of 10

I can't remember the last time a guy went from face jobber to heel main eventer in about 2.3 seconds, but that's basically what R-Truth did.

He was completely lost in the shuffle on Raw, a boring fan favorite with aggravating entrance music. Now, he's one of the best heels in the company.

And the reason Truth's character works is because it's believable and fresh. It's not the same recycled and rehashed heel persona that we've seen a thousand times.

Truth knows what he's doing as a heel, and if he keeps on rolling, then a WWE Championship reign might not be a bad idea.

3. Cody Rhodes

8 of 10

There are plenty of WWE wrestlers who have never held a singles title, but Cody Rhodes is one of the more surprising.

I thought for sure that he'd at least have an Intercontinental or U.S. title run under his belt by now, but he hasn't even had that.

And the crazy thing is, I think he's athletic and charismatic enough to leapfrog the secondary titles and head straight to the main event on SmackDown.

After all, everyone knows how thin the blue brand is on heels, and Rhodes could have a fresh feud with Christian or his first singles feud with his former Legacy comrade, Randy Orton.

2. Christian

9 of 10

When Christian won his first WWE World title at Extreme Rules, peeps across the world were excited about the future of Captain Charisma.

Then, later that very same week, Christian lost the World Heavyweight Championship to SmackDown's newest star, Randy Orton.

Now, the peeps are back to hoping that Christian will get another title reign, but one that actually lasts more than two days.

Count me amongst those fans, because if anyone deserves to be a champion, it's one of the most complete wrestlers in the WWE, Christian.

1. CM Punk

10 of 10

He's known as the leader of the New Nexus, or the "Straight Edge Superstar."

But I call CM Punk the most complete wrestler in the WWE. Hands down.

Truth be told, no one really compares to Punk. He's the total package, a guy who can cut a phenomenal 15-minute promo and then follow it up with a four-star match.

And, sadly, he may be leaving the company soon if he doesn't agree to terms on a new contract.

Give Punk a WWE title run, WWE. If not, I can guarantee you will regret it.
