SEC Football: The 12 Names You Should Be Following on Twitter

John RozumMay 26, 2011

The best conference in college football just got a bit more interesting.

To fulfill your 24/7/365 hunger for  SEC football, following certain people affiliated with the conference can only suffice until the season kicks off.

Whether it's a coach or a player, any character from the SEC also has character.

That said, here are the 12 SEC personnel to follow on Twitter.

Note: Each school only had one representative to ensure an all-encompassed perspective of the conference.

Marcus Lattimore: RB, South Carolina

For South Carolina fans, this is the guy you want to follow.

He was first team All-SEC as a freshman and has Heisman Trophy potential is 2011.

Arguably the best RB in the country, Marcus Lattimore can definitely put on an encore performance this season.

Therefore, follow him on Twitter, Gamecock fans, to cheer him on both in real life and online.

Les Miles: Head Coach, LSU

Even if you're not an LSU fan, Les Miles has to be that one coach you'd follow on Twitter.

Just by his antics on the sideline makes him a likable guy.

Not to mention there was some talk last season about him being on the hot seat, so that can only add more external interest from fan bases across the country.

In any event, he's one of the more interesting characters of the nations's best conference.

Jeff Demps: RB, Florida

Arguably the most recognizable dual-sport athlete in the college ranks, Jeff Demps not only excels at football, but on the track as well.

That alone should get more general sports fans interested, but with a new head coach in Florida as well, Demps' adjustment will be key.

That said, check him out on Twitter to keep up to date with how he and the Gators offense is moving along.

The only QB to make the list, Aaron Murray had a quiet 3,000-yard, 24-TD passing season in 2010.

Maybe because of the likes of Cam Newton, Ryan Mallett and Greg McElroy earning more exposure, Murray has come into his own.

Bulldog fans should be more than excited about his sophomore campaign in 2011, so follow him on Twitter, because he has first-team All-SEC potential.

Joker Phillips: Head Coach, Kentucky

Anyone with the first name "Joker" should be followed on Twitter.

Even the song "Joker" by the Steve Miller Band should suffice to those just interested in the word.

Nonetheless, UK head coach Joker Phillips should be the man to follow for Wildcat fans because he's been there virtually his whole career.

From 1981-1984, Phillips played WR for UK—he then coached from 1988-1996 and is currently in his second stint, which began back in 2003.

Houston Nutt: Head Coach, Ole Miss

Okay, wordplay has taken over for these last two slides, because Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt is just a cool name.

To begin, he's won everywhere he's coached and led Ole Miss to two straight bowl games in 2008 and 2009.

Rebel fans, do your head coach a favor and follow him on Twitter (if you haven't already) to show support and help get Ole Miss back to bowl season.

Tauren Poole: RB, Tennessee

The main Brahma Bull for Tennessee, Tauren Poole was arguably the best player for the Vols last season.

Despite Tennessee's unorthodox 6-7 season, Poole rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 11 TDs.

A well-rounded individual, Poole states in his Twitter bio, "My dream is to inspire."

Can't ask for much more if you're his coach, professor or fan.

James Franklin: Head Coach, Vanderbilt

8 of 12

Yes, we all know Florida has Will Muschamp now in charge, but no one is talking about Vanderbilt.

Although that is rightfully so, especially since 2008 was their first winning season in over 20 years, you've got to give the Commordores some love.

Why? Because they run the SEC gauntlet every year and there's never any talk of them changing conferences.

Now, enter new head coach James Franklin who is looking to turn around the program.

Trent Richardson: RB, Alabama

Based on those biceps alone, you should follow Trent Richardson on Twitter.

He's going to be the focal point of Nick Saban's offense and already has a significant amount of experience.

Look out for Richardson 2011, because he could very well steal the show in the SEC, if not the nation.

Vick Ballard: RB, Mississippi State

Other than QB Chris Relf, Vick Ballard is the man to check for from Mississippi State.

He led the squad with 968 rush yards, but also totaled for 20 TDs (19 rushing).

For these Bulldogs to string together 2010 and 2011, Ballards' productivity is crucial.

Mississippi State has the ability to contend for the SEC, and the next step is building from last season with confidence and momentum for this season.

Emory Blake: WR, Auburn

Last season, Emory Blake led the Auburn Tigers in TD receptions (eight), so increased expectations are in line for 2011.

Now, although Cam Newton is gone, look for Blake to lead the receiving core on and off the field.

Therefore, follow him on Twitter, Tiger fans—that way he and his teammates can defend their title while knowing a more approximate number of the fans behind them.

Which, by the way, would be pretty sweet.

Greg Childs: WR, Arkansas

The question this upcoming season in Arkansas is how the offense will maintain their high efficiency.

QB Ryan Mallet is gone, so which of the WRs will step up their game?

Well, all are great, but look no further than Greg Childs, who was right behind Joe Adams and Jarius Wright for yards and catches.

Therefore, help put him on the radar by following him on Twitter so the Razorback offense can keep the SEC just as exciting as 2010.
