WWE Over The Limit: John Cena Beats The Miz and What It Means
Over The Limit is finito and we still have a superhero holding the WWE championship as John Cena defeated The Miz in the "I Quit" match last night.
I was very interested in this match because, for one, I am a Miz fan, but also I wanted to know what the challenger would do to guarantee his victory like he promised.
We all know John Cena has never said the magic words and the two going into the match left us questioning if we could really see an upset.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The whole match started out with Alex Riley adding himself to the mix.
I was thinking, "Alright, this is anything goes, so it is allowed." The odds looked better for The Miz right there.
Both "heels" worked on Cena for the most part of the match, pummeling him, using kendo sticks, leather belts and steel steps. Still, "The Champ" said no way.
I was seeing a Miz I liked: vicious and unforgiving. He controlled the whole thing and even asked little Cenation kids to say "I Quit" for their man. Still no!
They kept beating him senseless and ultimately resorted to ruse as Riley held up the microphone and "John Cena" yelled he quit. Mind you, he used a tapped recording, a la Rock vs. Foley back in 1999. Brilliant!
Victory and new WWE Champion! The Miz!
The mischievous "heels" celebrated in the ring as Justin Roberts made the announcement. Mike Chioda, the referee who cost Miz the title during the first rematch, noticed a cell phone on the ground, takes a listen and realized he had been duped.
I find it funny they start making referees smart now and since when is a decision reversed?
Anyway, The Miz and Riley argued with the ref and the match restarts.
The "heels" worked on Cena and set him up for a smash of the title belt to his head. As always, Johnny Boy avoided it and Riley hit his mentor instead.
John Cena was suddenly full powered again.
Spectacular. Someone must have cast a magic spell to replenish him because no living man could return from such a beating. He truly is "Superman."
After getting rid of Alex Riley with an Attitude Adjustment onto the announce table, John Cena took off his leather belt and started to dish out punishment on The Miz.
Fast forward up the ramp, the two disappeared.
Nope. They returned and Cena applies the "STF" and out of nowhere, in less than one minute, this good match ended when The Miz said, "I quit."
The champion retained his title.
It was an unimpressive end to such a promising match. That, and the fact Kharma didn't show, were the reasons why I am disappointed in the results of the event.
I know The Miz went in there with a huge disadvantage, but I thought maybe they'd surprise us by making him looking strong in defeat if not holding the title.
What this means is simple. WWE dropped the ball on Miz's character and made him look weak as two men couldn't complete the job.
I had such high expectations for all parties in this match. It could have been one of their best.
I would have settled for a Miz loss but in a more "proper" way like passing out for example or even being subjected to the "STF" a little longer.
That would have meant he looked strong in defeat, that he is worthy of being considered for a "face" turn. Even if you hate him, you'd still think he's pretty cool after his noble surrender.
No. Sorry. It didn't happen that way.
They invested so much into the "Awesome One." What is the point of ending it this way? All that investment just got thrown out the window.
I hope I am wrong.
John Cena is forever portrayed as some invincible superstar who only loses his title due to injury or trickery.
You think you've seen enough of that "Superman" character of his? It is not over yet. WWE just can't move on and take a little risk by making a little change to his persona.
He can never lose fair and square. The fact he won like that last night must have set Cena-haters on fire.
Now what do we have to look forward to:
Alberto Del Rio will challenge John Cena, perhaps win and lose the title in the process leading to Cena's match against The Rock at WrestleMania XXVII.
The Miz will complain and enter an angle with Alex Riley and perhaps that meddling referee Chioda.
I really dislike this. The last thing The Miz needs is another weakness imposed by the creative team.
Maybe he will move to Friday nights and reign there as the much-needed top "heel" of the show.
I still say he should have moved to SmackDown with his title last month and have Del Rio win the World Heavyweight Championship and have a feud with Cena over that trash.
Over The Limit is done and things look pretty good for WWE Champion John Cena heading into the summer months.
Tonight is Monday Night Raw, many more questions will be answered, and we will see where all this is going.
