Randy Savage: Where Does Savage Rank Among Most Iconic Wrestlers Ever?

David DanielsMay 21, 2011

The great Randy Savage was sadly lost Thursday morning.

Wrestling fans will remember Macho Man forever and miss him dearly.  There is no question that he was an all-time great and arguably the greatest ever.

On that note, where does Savage actually rank among the best ever to grace a professional wrestling ring?

Here are the five most iconic wrestlers ever:

5. Shawn Michaels

The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels rolls in at No. 5.

Out of San Antonio, Texas, there weren't many better wrestlers than Shawn Michaels.

He was a four-time world champion and won back-to-back Royal Rumbles.  Michaels also won the Slammy Award a record 11 times.

4. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Stone Cold Steve Austin enters the discussion at No. 4.

He held 19 titles throughout his wrestling career including six WWE world championships.  Austin won three Royal Rumbles and the 1996 King of the Ring tournament.

If it weren't for unfortunate injuries, he could've even won more titles.

3. Hulk Hogan

The massive Hulk Hogan busts through the wall at No. 3.

At 6'7", 302 pounds, to say he stood out is an understatement.  Hogan was a 12-time world heavy weight champ and held the WCW World Champion title for a record 469 days.

2. Ric Flair

At No. 2, Ric Flair steps into the ring.

He is a 16-time world heavyweight champion even though he considers himself a 21-time champion.

Flair is the only wrestler ever to win the WWF Championship in a Royal Rumble match.  He's also the only active wrestler to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

1. Macho Man Randy Savage

5 of 5

Who else, but the Macho Man could end up at No. 1?

With his last name, Randy Savage didn't even need a nickname.  Savage held 20 championships during his career and was named by the WWE to be the greatest intercontinental champion of all time.

Ooh, yeah!
