WWE Superstars, May 19, 2011: The Major Broskis Reunite

Graham GSM MatthewsMay 20, 2011

Let me start off by stating my condolences regarding the shocking death of former WWE Champion Randy Savage today. My prayers go out to his family in this time of need, and hope to see Savage in the WWE Hall of Fame someday.

Yoshi Tatsu defeated Tyson Kidd with Michael P.S. Hayes

Since coming to SmackDown via the 2011 WWE Supplemental Draft, Tyson Kidd has certainly been given the opportunity to showcase his excellent wrestling ability he wasn't able to display on Monday nights. His fantastic showing tonight can also give credit to Yoshi Tatsu, providing us with a high-flying ten minute contest.

The fact that Tatsu wins most of the time and doesn't receive any sort of push for it bothers me, and stopped some of the momentum Kidd has produced recently. The finish was predictable, but I hope this isn't the last we've seen of Kidd with Hayes moving on to other Superstars to manage.

Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov defeated Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins

Seeing the reuniting of Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins last week, collectively known as the Major Broskis, actually made me excited to tune into WWE's Thursday night programming to see the two compete in their first match together in nearly two years.

The action was solid, but giving Marella and Kozlov the win was not a smart move in my mind. Ryder and Hawkins could make serious threats to the WWE Tag Team Championships with their storied history and chemistry, so it would make sense to rebuild their credibility with some victories.

Drew McIntyre defeated Evan Bourne

This main event bout certainly takes home Match of the Night. Seeing that these two had yet to lock up until last night, I was intrigued to see how these two bright young stars would mesh in the ring.

Both Bourne and McIntyre are usual victims of losing to other talent more than wins, so it was acceptable the Chosen One emerged victorious following his loss to Chris Masters last week. Nonetheless, the two provided a suspenseful, fast-paced match with a beautiful ending.

Final Review

This week's Superstars earns an average rating, with solid action but questionable victors in some cases. I am content to finally see WWE Superstars taken seriously, with longer matches and more intensity in matches, including a storyline thrown in the mix each week.

It is a little baffling as to why WWE Superstars is now all of sudden watchable, seeing the show just began to improve following its move to WWE.com. However, their move to the website has proven to be a success in my opinion and has worked out for the better in the long run.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment with your opinions on the show. GSM out.
