WWE News: 5 Possible Ways R-Truth Can Become a Major Player on RAW
Amazing how one night can change everything.
On the April 18th edition of Monday Night RAW, R-Truth lost his place in the three-way match for the WWE Championship. He was defeated by John Morrison, who had challenged him for his title shot earlier in the evening.
Truth freaked out, viciously attacking Morrison, and even smoked a cigarette as he did it. This marked quite possibly the biggest moment in Ron Killings' career since returning to WWE in 2008.
All of a sudden, the guy who was nothing more than an entertainer, dancing and rapping as the harmless smiling babyface, was now changing his colors. He was now considered a dangerous character, one who would be denied no longer.
I, for one, am happy for Truth. He's been a good solid worker for several years, and while he had a fairly successful run in TNA, this is really the first time he has even sniffed main event status in WWE.
So what happens now? What possible directions could his character potentially go in? Here's my take.
Feud with Rey Mysterio
1 of 5
The only way you get to be a top star in the business is by working other top stars.
This is no different for R-Truth, whose sneak attack on Rey Mysterio on the May 9th edition of RAW has generated some good heat between the two.
Now, these two guys need to feud. With any luck, WWE creative will not simply let this go, using their confrontation as merely a way to create drama for the sake of John Cena's title.
Rey can help Truth get over, and the fact is he does not necessarily have to lose the feud in order to do that.
Truth can emerge from the feud as the bitter loser who may be pinned in a possible rubber match between the two but does more damage to Rey before he leaves the ring.
This would help paint R-Truth as the cold-hearted aggressor, a classic heel who begins to blame everyone for his defeat except for himself.
Feuding with Rey Mysterio can be good for Truth. If there is any hope for him to finally begin to move up the WWE food chain, heat with a bankable main eventer is the only way to do it.
Win the United States Championship

Let's face it: If R-Truth is going to win a major championship on Monday Night RAW, it will have to be the United States Title. John Cena kind of already has the WWE Title sewn up.
There was a time when the U.S. Title was considered a steppingstone, a contender to the big belt, much in the same way as the Intercontinental Championship.
While those days seem to be over, there is still something to be said for the belt landing around the waist of a guy who could potentially be on his way up.
Provided that Kofi is still champion if and when Truth gets the opportunity to challenge for the belt, these two guys could have an interesting little feud.
On one side, R-Truth, who has decided that smiling, playing up to the fans and being the all-around good guy WWE Superstar has gotten him nothing and that there is a conspiracy to hold him back.
On the other side, Kofi Kingston, who smiles, plays up to the fans and is the all-around good guy WWE Superstar. Talk about instant heat.
Being a champion would get Truth more exposure and even more airtime, and both would do nothing but help his cause.
Be Given Some More Airtime

Regardless of whether or not Truth were to win the United States Title, airtime for this guy is absolutely necessary.
As far as the time he has been given up to this point, so far so good.
The mic time and the physical attacks against Rey Mysterio and John Morrison, whom he is being given credit for having shelved with an operation, have all played very well in terms of building his character. But it cannot stop here.
RAW needs to be inundated with Truth. He has to be in as many segments and involved in as many physical situations as possible. The more fans see of him, the more they will grow to hate what he's saying and how he says it.
To be honest, if this were WWE circa 1995, R-Truth would already be considered a top guy for the Attitude era.
Nearly every time he speaks, I for one can sense that he is having to choose his words carefully. In the toned-down atmosphere that WWE now operates in, there is only so far a Superstar can go in terms of what he can and cannot say.
Of course, Rock is still allowed to curse a blue streak, and no one seems to have a problem with that.
But Truth has to play the hand he is dealt, and a pro wrestler can definitely heel out without having to be foulmouthed about it.
JBL got over during his initial heel turn by being on TV, and being on the mic, as much as possible. His face was on the air so much that fans began to get sick at the sight of him.
Perhaps too much of R-Truth could burn him out too quickly with fans. But not enough and his push is dead in the water.
Form a New Faction
4 of 5
This one hasn't been done in a while.
The Nation of Domination was a good stable and was over from the moment it was formed. Yes, the black and white angle had been done before, but not to this degree on the WWE stage.
Perhaps it is time for this idea to be reborn.
R-Truth, along with Michael Tarver, David Otunga, JTG, Kofi Kingston and perhaps even Booker T as the unofficial manager. Again, yes, using the race card may be considered cheap heat, but WWE has proven it is not above using such tactics to get a guy over.
If a new faction is perhaps not in the cards, then Truth could potentially replace CM Punk as the leader of the Nexus.
The faction seems to be on its way out, with rumors of Punk perhaps leaving the company this year. Plus, the group that set RAW ablaze with controversy last year has honestly not done much as a unit in a long time.
Truth, using his own arrogance and conspiracy theory of being held back by WWE, could convince the Nexus that the same is being done to them.
He could also use the same reasoning to convince four guys who have little to nothing to do with each other to join together with their skin color and ambition as a unifying force.
Pick a Fight with John Cena
5 of 5
If you want to be the big dog, you have to take the big dog down.
It's a an age-old adage, a time-honored tradition in the business. If you want to get a guy over, really over, then you give him heat with your top money man.
John Cena is the Monopoly man of WWE. At this point, he bleeds green for that company.
Yes, it has been made painfully obvious that WWE plans on having Cena keep the championship nearly a full year until he works Rock at WrestleMania 28. So why even bother putting Truth in the title picture?
Because the only thing that matters is that he is there. Definitively beating John Cena is not necessary for R-Truth to be considered a serious threat to the belt. Just placing him in the position of being able to potentially win may be enough.
"John Cena is still WWE Champion because WWE wants it that way. Once again, the Truth is not being allowed to shine. Once again, the Truth is being denied his chance."
The key to making Truth's new gimmick work is that no matter how far he gets, he will not allow himself to believe that he is not being held down by this so-called conspiracy. Getting within an eyelash of pinning John Cena for the WWE Title would do nothing but strengthen his character even more.
Despite what happens with R-Truth, if WWE is serious about him—and "if" is the key word here—then I believe that it can be done, and done in a way that works for him and makes sense for his character.
And that is the truth.
