WWE Extreme Rules: 10 Matches We Should Be Seeing, but Won't
Extreme Rules comes to pay-per-view on Sunday as WWE tries to show us how to be extreme and PG at the same time. Thus far, there are five matches slated for Sunday's event with one more expected to be announced between Layla and Michelle McCool.
This leaves us with a lot of superstars that are not on the card. With Extreme Rules being one of the pay-per-views that classically has been disappointing, the card may stay exactly the same. There are a lot of possible matchups that we could be, and probably should be, seeing this weekend.
For those of you wondering, this is an alternate poster for Extreme Rules, which features CM Punk. It is certainly better looking than John Cena getting an X-Ray. Just because WWE wants to forget about Punk doesn't mean that I should.
1) Sheamus Defending the United States Championship
1 of 10
Sheamus was the last person to switch shows in this week's WWE draft. He will surely be a force to be reckoned with on Friday nights. The reigning King of the Ring joins the blue brand and brings his United States Championship with him. This leaves RAW without a mid-card champion unless a title change happens on the pay-per-view.
Since the selections are not supposed to take place until next Monday's RAW (we will see how well SmackDown follows that statement), Sunday is the last chance to move one title back to RAW. It could be Wade Barrett's Intercontinental Championship that goes to the other brand, but the best chance for a title match is for Sheamus.
It would also be nice to see the Celtic Warrior on a pay-per-view after he and Daniel Bryan were pushed to the dark match at WrestleMania last month.
2) Brie Bella Defending the Divas Championship
2 of 10
There isn't a whole lot of excitement for this idea, I'm sure. Brie Bella doesn't exactly get me excited...not for a wrestling match, anyway.
The Divas division is slowly but surely being revamped, though. Kharma is set to appear very soon and the draft helped to align pieces in place that would make Kharma's path of destruction perfect. For that reason, Brie Bella could use an actual title defense to make herself look strong. With a title defense, she won't look completely out of the league of Kharma when the two cross paths, even if it is truly the case.
3) Big Show/Kane vs. Any Tag Team
3 of 10
Big Show was drafted to RAW this week, while Kane stayed put on SmackDown. These two gigantic men are now the tag team champions, but are on separate shows. With the belts, it won't matter since they can both appear on either show. It essentially means that the team breaks up when they lose the title belts.
Just like any combination of these big men (Kane and the Undertaker, Undertaker and Big Show, etc.), the only force that seems to destroy them is one another. The only people that will be responsible for them not being champions is the two of them not co-existing. Big Show being put on a different brand will be the first test for the duo.
4) Any Nexus Members in a Match
4 of 10
CM Punk has a Last Man Standing match against Randy Orton at Extreme Rules and I am sure that the New Nexus will get themselves involved. Why can't we just see what these guys are made of and have them actually wrestle on a pay-per-view?
Mason Ryan is allowed to dominate on RAW but doesn't even get a chance at a pay-per-view match? What gives?
5) Anything Involving The Corre
5 of 10
Hopefully, WWE has learned from the debacle of the Hart Dynasty's breakup and will be more swift when they destroy the Corre pretty soon. The Hart Dynasty was having problems for literally weeks on end before finally breaking up in what was supposed to be shocking.
The Corre has had their hiccups for the past month and, without having them break up via the draft, the Corre can do it on a pay-per-view and just get it over with.
6) Mark Henry in a Squash Match
6 of 10
I will be honest in saying that I looked at Mark Henry still on the WWE roster and thought that it was a waste of a spot. Then Monday happened. Not only was Henry drafted to SmackDown, but he was a force to be reckoned with in the main event, seemingly turning heel on John Cena and Christian. Christian was lifted up and sent into a part of the ring, while Cena was cost the match, giving Cena right back to RAW.
Also, in a video that can be seen here, Henry was interviewed backstage and was very emotional about the new start. Henry has lost a lot of weight and his heel turn is basically saving his career at this point. I would love nothing more than to see Mark Henry on pay-per-views again. Make this man be dominant once more and have his final major run in WWE be worth it.
7) Sin Cara's PPV Debut
7 of 10
Sin Cara is the big-time acquisition by WWE that debuted the day after WrestleMania. In just a few short weeks, Sin Cara was given enough of a following by fans to merit a move to Friday nights, where he clearly fits better.
With so much publicity for him and in an attempt to sell more buys of the event in Mexico, Sin Cara on the card needs to make it on a card sooner rather than later.
8) Kharma's WWE Debut
8 of 10
There aren't many people who debut in WWE on a pay-per-view, which is exactly why Kharma debuting on Sunday would be extraordinary. For a woman that was so strong in TNA and is being given great monster vignettes, a rarity for females, it would only seem like debuting her at a pay-per-view would be suitable, especially because the Extreme Rules buys are not exactly stellar.
People would pay to see replays of Kharma's debut and she would overshadow a lot of what would be going on Sunday night already.
9) Dolph Ziggler on the Card
9 of 10
Besides CM Punk, is there another guy getting ignored more on this roster than Dolph Ziggler? Just in the year of 2011, Ziggler has lost his Intercontinental Championship, chased Edge's World Heavyweight Championship, won the title for a few minutes, was "fired," lost a WrestleMania tag team match to Snooki and is now going through a reinvention before our very eyes. This isn't just a new haircut, people. Ziggler will be "main event material," at least by WWE standards, in terms of his look and presentation.
This is the time where Ziggler should be gaining a winning streak as he progressively gets an upgrade. Ever since being put onto RAW, he has been slated in as one of the top guys on the red show. However, there's no consistency in the way he is booked, including not being on the Elimination Chamber card, as well as this one.
10) Zack Ryder. Period.
10 of 10
Never have I ever seen so much popularity for a guy like Zack Ryder. I was in the live chat during Tuesday's supplemental, where Ryder was a guest in the chat. Fans were incredibly pumped at the idea of Ryder moving to SmackDown, which did not happen. Of all of the low-card superstars in WWE right now, Ryder is far and away one of the most popular superstars. In fact, Ryder has developed one of the top followings of any superstar in WWE right now.
It would be a shame to see Ryder go walking in a few weeks. If that is the case, why not give Ryder one more pay-per-view paycheck for old time's sake? He doesn't need to wrestle. He doesn't need to really do anything. You could even have him backstage doing something idiotic, like always. As long as we all get our share of Zack Ryder, we will all be happy. Woo Woo Woo—You Know It.
