WWE Extreme Rules 2011: The Fatal 4-Way and 9 Matches We Should See but Won't
WWE Extreme Rules is five days away. The WWE draft was two days ago. With no new matches announced since before the draft, the known card stands at five matches. So we know that the draft did not impact the Extreme Rules card but it may have impacted the storylines that come from it.
However, as it stands, WWE is missing the boat by not adding matches with built-in storylines. Without further ado, here are the 10 matches we should see at Extreme Rules but probably won’t.
1) The Fatal Four Way: The Miz © vs. John Cena vs. John Morrison vs. R-Truth

This match has story written all over it.
R-Truth would get the title shot he earned by defeating Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison, and fending off a fresh John Cena.
The Morrison/Truth story could continue without missing a beat. Miz would look credible defending against three contenders, and could have a viable excuse if he lost.
Finally, Cena could lose to any of the others without being pinned. Every story could continue without this match looking like a stop-gap before The Rock’s Birthday Bash on Raw.
2) Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan
Both of these newly drafted Smackdown superstars deserve to have a complete match on a PPV.
Sheamus’ brute power vs. Bryan’s technical ability. Even as a show starter, this match could set the tone for the rest of the night.
Plus, the WWE universe needs to see what Daniel Bryan can do with weapons; it would go a long way in establishing him as a better entertainer. Also, it’s apparently commonplace to start a PPV with a title match.
3) Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler
These two have a built-in rivalry. Adding Kelly Kelly and Vickie Guerrero to this match adds to the story, as it allows the creative team to pick up where they left off while making Drew McIntyre relevant again.
Vickie Guerrero as a heat magnet would make the Sinister Scotsman a face, or at least an Anti-Hero capable of picking up Randy Orton’s now vacant slot on the Raw roster.
4) Santino/Kozlov vs. Kane and Big Show
Now on paper this does not look like a good match, but there is a story here.
Santino and Kozlov lost the titles to the Corre under dubious circumstances. Big Show and Kane won those titles feuding with the Corre. Santino and Kozlov could conceivably want the titles that they lost back.
Adding Slater and Gabriel to the match would only prolong the feud, so keeping it two-on-two would be best.
This match would add miles of credibility back to Kozlov, as putting on a strong show against Kane and Big Show would remind people that he once cleanly beat the Undertaker.
5) Beth Phoenix vs. Kharma
This match will happen, very likely at Summerslam. With the building excitement towards Kharma’s debut and Beth Phoenix’s drafting, it is inevitable that these two will cross paths, just not at Extreme Rules.
6) Sheamus vs. Triple H
One year ago, Sheamus defeated Triple H and put him out of action for nearly a year. Triple H has never really avenged that loss, and yes, I do remember the beating before Wrestlemania. But Sheamus needs the rub from a veteran and since Undertaker won’t be back anytime soon, Triple H has a built-in story. Plus, they could always destroy the Cole Mine again.
7) Kofi Kingston vs. Ted Dibiase
This match would go a long way in propelling either of these stars onto their new shows. Plus, if CM Punk can bring up his beatdown from Legacy three years ago, Kofi probably remembers being a victim of Legacy.
Or least, we’d see a battle of performers with stalled pushes attempting to validate their careers.
8) Sin Cara vs. Mark Henry
Rey Mysterio defeated Mark Henry with a roll-up during his World Title reign, so this would not be a squash match. Fans easily get bored with fancy moves; as we all thought the 619 was cool six years ago.
This would establish Sin Cara as a credible performer, and Mark Henry’s post-match attack would give this feud some legs. It would also give a newly heel-turned Mark Henry a new face to put over.
9) Mason Ryan vs. Evan Bourne
The New Nexus will not last forever, and Mason Ryan needs to destroy someone single-handedly before Nexus is done. Evan Bourne can get in some good offense and inevitably become to Mason Ryan what Jaime Noble was to Sheamus.
Besides, CM Punk has destroyed Evan Bourne before, and Ryan follows CM Punk everywhere else.
10) Wade Barrett © vs . Daniel Bryan
I used Sheamus twice, so I feel I should use Bryan twice.
WWE has a flaky history with the idea of retribution. Barrett kicked Bryan out of the group and Bryan returned to help Team Cena defeat the Nexus at Summerslam. Afterwards, Bryan and the Nexus largely stayed out of each other’s way.
Bryan should still be gold hungry, especially with three singles titles on Smackdown currently, and Wade Barrett needs to defeat someone of skill instead of a botchaholic like Kofi Kingston to remain convincing.
These are the 10 matches I think we should have seen at Extreme Rules, as always comments are appreciated, and I’d like to know some of your match ideas as well.
Stylistically Speaking,
Trey Styles
