Tiger Woods: When Will Tiger Return to PGA Tour Again Following MCL Injury?
Tiger Woods Bows Out of Wells Fargo Open
The last time we saw Tiger Woods, he was charging up the leaderboards with a very strong final round at the Masters. He ended up finishing tied for fourth, making 2011 the seventh year in a row he's left Augusta National with a Top 6 finish.
We were supposed to see Tiger again at the Wells Fargo Open next weekend (May 5-8), but apparently that's not going to happen.
The man himself announced Tuesday that he has been forced to withdraw from the tournament with a pair of injuries.
The news broke on TigerWoods.com less than an hour ago. He supposedly hurt himself on the 17th hole during the third round of the Masters, and he has since been diagnosed with a "Grade 1 mild medial collateral ligament sprain to his left knee and a mild strain to his left Achilles tendon."
"I personally contacted tournament officials and expressed my regret in not being able to play," said Tiger. "This is an outstanding event, but I must follow doctors' orders to get better."
Doctors have told Tiger to rest and to do some cold-water therapy, and he's also going to undergo soft tissue treatment later this week. There is "no definitive time frame" for healing, but Tiger hopes to be back in "a few weeks."
Bummer. We've been waiting for Tiger to bust out of his funk for a long time now, and he seemed to make some pretty major strides at the Masters.
Oh well. Now that Tiger is out, my guess is that he'll play it safe. The U.S. Open (June 16-19) will be here before we know it and I'll be shocked if he isn't back by then.
