WWE Draft 2011: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Should Stay on Monday Night RAW
The 2011 WWE Draft is nearly upon us, and we the fans are doing what we usually do. We're discussing the potential possibilities of moves, and debating what Superstars should go to which program.
While I enjoy the speculation as much as the next guy, what I find just as intriguing is the flip side of the conversation. Which Superstars aren't going anywhere?
Love him or hate him, John Cena is WWE. He is the proverbial face of the company, and that directly translates to being the top guy on their flagship program, Monday Night RAW. Logic dictates that he's not headed back to SmackDown.
But, of course, this is WWE we're talking about here. When it comes to that company, and to the business of professional wrestling, fans have learned to never say never.
So, while it is indeed possible for Cena to become a SmackDown Superstar once again, my instinct tells me he's staying put.
And here are five reasons why I believe it.
1. Triple H
1 of 5
Triple H is moving up in the world.
Hunter was recently named the head of the new talent department for WWE. He will oversee the training and development of new workers hired by the company.
It is a big-time position for a big-time player.
We probably all expected him to gain more responsibility at some point, given his long history with the company, and all he has accomplished for WWE.
Then there's the fact that he's married to the boss' daughter. That never hurts.
Despite the reasons for Hunter being in the spot he is now in, the fact is that he too at one time was considered the face of WWE and Monday Night RAW.
But since WrestleMania 27, things appeared to have changed for The Game, as he is apparently taking a half-step back from the spotlight. With this being the case, I find it hard to believe that the guy filling his former role would be traded back to the B-show.
RAW needs that prime time guy, the one that fans either can't wait to love, or hate, a Superstar to be the centerpiece of the program.
That guy used to be Triple H. Not so much anymore.
2. Randy Orton Is No Longer a Heel

Randy Orton is this generation's Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
Wearing a wicked smile and burning intensity in his eyes, Orton was once the top heel on RAW. Then the fans decided that he was cool, and now he is an unlikely face, second only in terms of status, to John Cena on RAW.
The question for me is: How long will he stay that way?
In my mind, there is too much drama in guessing who will turn heel first. I know all the arguments around why Cena can supposedly never turn heel, the same statements were once made about Hogan during his WWF run. But, anything is possible. Especially in this situation.
Cena and Orton's characters are existing on perhaps an uneasy truce, storyline-wise, both men taking care of their business in two different directions. But considering their vast history together, I believe it is only a matter of time before the rivalry is renewed.
Understanding the massive love, mostly hate, relationship that fans have with Cena, the truth is, anyone can turn him heel at this point.
But, Cena turning heel at the expense of RAW's preeminent bad boy, would provide a very intriguing storyline, and re-light the feud for a whole new set of plot-lines and championship matches.
Of course, Orton could very well be sent to SmackDown himself, which would spoil any chance for this to happen.
But, the possibility of these two switching roles in a new feud is too big in my mind. I believe they could do some serious business together on a whole new level
They get along now. But perhaps these two characters cannot breathe the same air for long without one deciding he would rather breathe it alone.
3. Cena's Feud with Miz

The Miz is currently WWE Champion, and as a character, has accomplished his goals in life by being the top guy in the biggest pro wrestling entertainment company in the world.
As the man behind the gimmick, Miz is still fighting for respect among a great number of fans who believe he perhaps does not have enough to be in the spot he's in.
You only become a top star in this business by working the top stars.
Miz is right where he belongs in his evolution as a WWE Superstar by working John Cena. Getting the rub from Cena is doing nothing but helping him legitimize his place in the company and giving him the opportunity to grow as a performer.
Throwing John Morrison into the mix, while unexpected, does not take away from Cena's importance to Miz and his career.
WWE has a bad habit of starting feuds, and then ending them prematurely. This one perhaps will end in exactly that fashion.
But for me, Cena's all-heart and gutsy attitude is a nice contrast to Miz's cocky, arrogant demeanor. They compliment each other well and this feud deserves the opportunity to grow.
4. This Is Christian's Time
4 of 5
Call this one wishful thinking.
I admit, I am one of those fans who is pulling for Christian to finally be given his shot. He's paid his dues, done everything asked of him, and now is the time.
I know the rumors abound about Del Rio going over for the World Title, then he and Miz switching spots on each program, but I believe that the scenario for Christian here is just too perfect.
With Edge's retirement, the circumstances could not be better. The planets are aligned, the mood is right. The fans want it, and Christian becoming the World Champion should happen.
But if it does, and John Cena were to be traded to SmackDown, it will be a very short title run.
Yes, Cena is existing on RAW with someone else as champ. No, it's not affecting his spot on the program, or in the company.
But if he leaves RAW, then Christian's push is dead in the water, and any possibility of him being the top dog on that program is dead as well. It doesn't matter if he were to turn heel on John, and they feud for the belt.
The fact is, Cena would eventually go over, and Christian, in time, would be back down to doing nothing again. He doesn't have youth on his side like Miz, if his push is cut short, there may not be a tomorrow for him.
The fact is, these guys will go where they are told to go, I get that. But, John Cena is in the top spot in the company, and should be making guys, not breaking them down, or taking away their opportunities. This is what would happen if he goes to SmackDown.
Again, wishful thinking. I want Christian to be the champ. That bit has to happen first.
5. John Cena Is Mr. Monday Night
5 of 5
Again, for me, this is the easy answer.
John Cena represents everything WWE is trying to be right now: bright, shiny, kid-friendly, a squeaky clean hero they can send on the talk-show circuit and one day perhaps make a legitimate movie star.
Monday Night RAW is their number one program, and he is in the best position for the company to market him and build everything around him. Moving him now, after the massive spotlight focused on him has brought the company the image it has desired for so long, makes no sense.
Wait a minute. This is WWE. Half of what they do makes little to no sense at times.
Oh well. I guess we will all just have to wait and see.
