I'm Right, You're Wrong: The Most Annoying Smirks in Sports
According to Dictonary.com, a smirk is defined as a "smile in an affected, smug or offensively familiar way."
I can define it in one word: annoying. But a smirk says so much more. It says I'm better, I'm smarter, and I don't care what the rules say, I'm right...
Smugs are on prominent display in the sports world. Here are the most annoying. How annoying are they? This guy (Giants closer Brian Wilson) didn't even make the list.
Phil Jackson, Lakers Coach
1 of 6
Phil Jackson gets a lot of leeway on this list. Winning 11 NBA tiles and owning a good chunk of Montana will do that. There's no doubt he's a great coach. There's also no doubt that he's a smirker. On the plus side, all indications are that his court-side smirking will end this summer.
Kobe Bryant, Lakers Guard
2 of 6
While Phil smirks from the bench, Kobe smirks on the court. There's no doubt he's a great player. But Bryant believes that he should receive every call, and that every teammate must play to his high standards. Fail to do so and risk getting the smirk.
Geno Auriemma, UConn Women's Coach
3 of 6
Auriemma is the best in his chosen profession with seven national titles and 90 straight wins. But he's not everybody's favorite (just ask his UConn men's counterpart, Jim Calhoun). Note to Geno: It could be the smirk.
Pat Burrell, Giants Outfielder
4 of 6
Burrell does four things well: hit home runs, butcher plays in left field and strike out...the fourth thing is smirking. Have you ever seen him after he strikes out looking? In it's own way, it's a thing of beauty.
John Tortorella, New York Rangers Coach
5 of 6
In regards to this list, what Tortorella lacks in name recognition, he makes up for with a 24/7 smirk. What warrants such a confident smirk? Keeping the overpaid, underachieving Rangers in contention for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Steve Spurrier, South Carolina Coach
6 of 6
Spurrier is the king of smirks. Ask any quarterback that's played for him. He even smirks when getting interviewed by Erin Andrews. Does one national title and a Heisman Trophy justify the smirks? No.
