UFC 129: Ben Henderson "Isn't Fazed" by Mark Bocek's Hometown Advantage

Mike HodgesApr 21, 2011

Like most fighters after suffering a tough loss, UFC lightweight Ben Henderson intends to move on with his career and look for his next challenge.

Henderson, one of the breakout stars from the now-defunct WEC, performed in one the most exciting bouts in MMA history when he and Anthony Pettis fought for the WEC lightweight title at WEC 53.

While the classic fight will likely be remembered for a flying head kick delivered by Pettis, the bout also proved that the 27-year old has the potential to transition to the UFC.

Henderson will get the chance to prove himself when he squares off against fellow lightweight Mark Bocek in front of 55,000 fans that will be rooting for their hometown hero. However, the Canadian crowd will be the least of Henderson's worries.

"Not that I'm not fazed by it, but it's not the biggest deal," he said. "We are fighting and training accordingly and trying to emulate the hostile environment."

This will be the first time Henderson will be competing in five months, a layoff that he says he need in order to sharpen his skills.

And while he does his goal is to capture the UFC lightweight title sometime in the future, Henderson says a rematch versus Pettis is guaranteed to happen.

"I think there's only one way to find out how he'd fare in a rematch and I'd love to find out. Before I retire, I will absolutely face him again and it definitely will be a very fun fight for me when I face him again," he said.

Ben Henderson will compete against Mark Boeck at UFC 129 next weekend.
