Keith Jardine, Clay Guida and the 12 Wildest Fighters in MMA

First LastJun 7, 2018

Fighters aren't just defined by their wins and losses.

Every fighter has a different style, some more unique than others. Fans appreciate the unpredictability of a fighter like Shinya Aoki or Keith Jardine because he has a style that is one of a kind. It doesn't always work to his advantage, but it's always entertaining to watch and intriguing to hardcore and casual fans alike.

These are the top 12 fighters with the wildest fighting styles.

No. 12: Brian Ebersole

1 of 12

Welterweight veteran fighter Brian Ebersole has only had one fight in the UFC, but he is a veteran of over 60 professional MMA bouts.

Ebersole didn't take long to introduce himself to UFC fans and opened his fight with Chris Lytle by throwing a cartwheel kick—a move he has done many times before.

If you are wondering about Ebersole's arrow tattoo that he shaves onto his chest before each bout, he has stated it's there to show his opponent where his chin is.

No. 11: Nick Diaz

2 of 12

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz has one of the most effective fighting styles in MMA, and it's also one of the most unique. You are guaranteed several things during a Diaz fight, including taunting, high punch outputs and an exciting finish.

Nine of his last 10 fights have been finished within the distance with Diaz earning the submission or knockout win. He has beaten the likes of Paul Daley, KJ Noons and Scott Smith.

Diaz is so confident in his fighting ability that he recently called out former world boxing champion Jeff Lacy. Diaz is crazy enough to do it, and it's what makes him one of the more interesting fighters out there.

No. 10: Anthony Pettis

3 of 12

WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis left his mark on the MMA scene when he threw an off-the-cage, Matrix-style kick to knock down Ben Henderson.

It was the kick heard around the world and won him the WEC title over five rounds, and it got him a future UFC title shot if he makes it past his next opponent, Clay Guida. The bout is scheduled for June 4th as the main event on the TUF finale. With their styles, expect nothing less than a "Fight of the Year" candidate.

No. 9: Diego Sanchez

4 of 12

Bloodied and bruised, Diego Sanchez fought through three tough rounds against Martin Kampmann to earn a controversial split-decision victory.

He also put on the 2009 "Fight of the Year" versus Clay Guida, which also earned him a split-decision win.

Sanchez' wild fighting style has earned him the victory in many of his fights and shows it can sometimes contribute to who the judges see as the victor in a close fight.

Sanchez is not only wild inside the Octagon but outside of it too, where he does yoga, "Yes!" cartwheels and extracts energy from thunderstorms.

No. 8: Jason "Mayhem" Miller

5 of 12

Jason "Mayhem" Miller is an MMA fighter, announcer and the host of MTV2's Bully Beatdown show.

Many fans remember Mayhem's lone UFC bout versus Georges St. Pierre, where the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt lost a unanimous decision.

Miller is one of the few fighters who is as wild outside the cage as he is inside of it. All you have to do is listen to one of his interviews or watch his BB show to know how crazy he really is. His fight entrances are pretty wild too.

No. 7: Chan "Korean Zombie" Sung-Jung

6 of 12

With a nickname like the "Korean Zombie," fans can expect some crazy things from this fighter.

Jung put on 2010's "Fight of the Year" when he took on Leonard Garcia at WEC 48. It was a wild and entertaining three-round war but one that the 24-year-old came up short in, losing a split decision.

He took on Garcia again at Ultimate Fight Night in Seattle. He pulled off the first twister submission in the history of the UFC, which is credited to Eddie Bravo.

No. 6: Wanderlei Silva

7 of 12

Pride and UFC veteran fighter Wanderlei Silva may not be as wild as he used to be, but he isn't afraid to get wild when he needs to.

His ferocious fighting style and tenacious attitude towards knocking out his opponent have led him to earning 23 knockouts in 33 victories. It has also worked against him in the five bouts he was knocked out in.

Silva's next bout will be against Chris Leben at UFC 132 in a fight that guarantees a knockout. It will be two relentless and ruthless fighters with big power showing the fighting spirit that has defined them throughout their entire careers.

No. 5: Chris Leben

8 of 12

MMA fans love to watch Chris Leben fight. His fierce fighting style and iron chin have helped produce some of the best fights, comebacks and knockouts in the UFC.

His knockouts over Jorge Santiago and Terry Martin were incredible. He is a "take two to give one" type of fighter, and it has made him a fan favorite in MMA.

If you don't believe it, wait till he takes on Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132. It's going to be crazy.

No. 4: Leonard Garcia

9 of 12

UFC and WEC veteran fighter Leonard Garcia is 3-4-1 in his last eight bouts.

Of them, five have been split decisions, and that is because of his unrestrained fighting style. His aggressive and wild fighting style can be credited to him earning many of the controversial decisions in his career.

Judges just don't know how to score someone who throws wild, looping punches that really don't connect but look like they do. He provides nonstop pressure in a relentless fighting style that not many fighters have.

No. 3: Shinya Aoki

10 of 12

Japanese lightweight and submission wizard Shinya Aoki is as wild as his pants, and it's helped him get 17 submission victories in 33 professional bouts. His butt-scoot maneuver also helps.

Aoki is widely considered to be one of the very best submission grapplers in all of MMA. He may even be the best when it comes to using techniques rarely seen in the highest levels of the sport.

Submission victories have been a key to Aoki having the most rewarding accomplishments of his career, including winning the WAMMA lightweight championship and Dream lightweight championship.

No. 2: Keith "Herky Jerky" Jardine

11 of 12

"Herky-jerky" is often used to describe Keith Jardine's fighting style. It's described as spasmodic, irregular, and unpredictable, as in movement or manner. In other words, it perfectly describes the way "The Dean of Mean" fights.

Jardine is not always effective with his style, but he has used it against the very best fighters in the light-heavyweight division, including Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Quinton Jackson and Gegard Mousasi.

Jardine rarely finishes fights without bleeding, but it's part of his style and makes him one of the wildest fighters in MMA.

No. 1: Clay Guida

12 of 12

In one of the wildest performances of his career, lightweight fighter Clay Guida took on Japanese superstar Takanori Gomi at UFC 125. With uncontrollable head and foot movement, Guida confused and frustrated Gomi for one round before getting him down and submitting him in the second.

From the time of the fight being announced to the energetic weigh-in till the final bell, it's rare that fans get to see a fighter as pumped up and wild as Guida.
