Strikeforce Diaz vs. Daley Results: Keith Jardine Thinks He Beat Gegard Mousasi

Nick CaronApr 10, 2011

Keith Jardine made his Strikeforce debut on Saturday night as he fought to a draw with former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi.

Despite the television announcers and CompuStrike statistics on the fight, all of which gave the fight to Mousasi, a busted-faced Jardine believes he was the rightful victor.

“The first two rounds, I felt real comfortable about that,” Jardine explained to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. “In the third round, man, I hit the wall and I didn’t have much left. But I felt real good about the first two rounds.”

Contrary to Jardine’s belief, though, the fight would have been scored for Gegard Mousasi on all three judges’ scorecards if he didn’t land an illegal upkick that cost him a point.

Nevertheless, Jardine put on a performance that one can only admire given the very small amount of time he had to fight an elite level competitor in Gegard Mousasi. Win, lose or draw; one has to respect the heart Jardine showed tonight.

“That’s the most tired I’ve ever been during a fight,” he offered. ““I gave it all I had and I didn’t have nothing left in the tank, that’s for sure.”

“The Dean of Mean” also stuck true to his pre-fight statements that this will likely be his final fight at 205 pounds.

“I’m still looking to go down to 185 and get that title in a couple fights,” he concluded. “My career’s not finished until I get that title."
