WWE WrestleMania 27 Results:10 Reasons The Rock Shouldn't Have Ended the PPV
The greatest event in sports-entertainment is behind us. We can now look to the future and get ready for an extraordinary year of WWE action. While the show of shows was a massive success in generating millions in revenue, it failed to demonstrate faith the company has in its current talent. The addition of Dwayne Johnson as guest host seemed to make it all more glamorous, but at what cost?
I watched WWE programming over the last few months in preparation for this big event. The road to WrestleMania XXVII began at the Royal Rumble, and I was thrilled to hear of The Rock's long-awaited return to host the greatest night of the year.
I just didn't expect him to be the only attraction. It made everyone else look so small. When he was given the Attitude Adjustment last Monday on RAW I knew as much as anyone that there would be hell to pay.
What did that say bout the main event then...
Too Predictable a Finish

The match was said to have a slow and clunky start. How could it not, with everyone expecting The Rock's arrival? After the controversial and anticlimactic finish, he appeared and restarted the match, making it no disqualifications or count-outs thus to ensure there would be a clear winner.
That was not to be.
He delivered his trademark move on John Cena. We all knew it was coming and just that alone removed the magic from the main event of WrestleMania XXVII. Had I been in WWE Creative's shoes, I would have done it differently and allowed the WWE Universe to have its Mania moment of 2011.
It started out with such promise. Nice video packages and entrances that promoted the two combatants, a proper introduction and a surprising reaction from the fans to each superstar. I was waiting for this match the whole night and believed The Miz was going to win in my heart but I didn't think it would be this way.
The Rock's WWE Future Still Uncertain

This past Monday on RAW we finally had the synthesis of all this bitterness between The Rock and John Cena. The main event of WrestleMania XXVIII has been decided a year in advance. John Cena will take on The Rock in his hometown of Miami, Florida. This will be the confrontation of the ages. Not since Mania XVIII did we have such a powerful encounter, and significantly enough, it involved The Rock yet again in his epic match with legend Hulk Hogan.
Great! We have what we wanted. A match between the two. But then why did he have to come in the main event and steal the show? All this could have been prepared over the course of the year. Between now and April 1st, 2012 what will The Rock do? Make more movies or help build up this epic battle?
He has come and gone, taken all the glory and now what? Will we see him on TV again this year?
The Rock Cast a Shadow from the Beginning

It was to be the best feud on RAW. The match for the WWE championship and the conclusion of two years of feuding between the faces of WWE. I was waiting for this moment for months. The Miz was finally going to get his moment and defeat John Cena and retain his coveted title on the grandest stage of them all. No. The Rock was announced as the guest host, I thought "wonderful!" He then mentioned The Miz and John Cena in his opening promo and already I knew something big was going to happen.
I was awaiting the day when all three were to face one another in a verbal war. The Rock decimated John Cena with his words repeatedly, but as I expected, The WWE Champion held his own and did very well, especially after beating the lights out of Cena week after week. He then turning the camera to himself and personally addressed The Rock.
It was unfortunately too late. The focus had shifted from who is going to be champion at the end of the show to what will The Rock do?
I don't care what the Rock will do! I want to see superstar X defeat superstar Y (whether you are a fan of Miz or Cena.)
It became all about The Rock and as a result...
The Main Event of WrestleMania 27 Suffered

Did we know The Rock was going to interfere? Yes, of course! I predicted the way he would, as written in my other article word for word. However, he could have just done half and let the match resume its course with a clear and definite winner. I wanted The Miz to win clean or at least retain and have his moment in the spotlight with Cena looking strong in defeat.
There was a long ramp, Rock and Cena could have had a staredown far from each other while The Miz celebrated in the ring. Fireworks, explosions and a WWE RAW later and it would have felt much more epic than just the HOST laying out BOTH superstars.
Dwayne Johnson Took Advantage of His "host" Duties

He is The Rock.
The People's Champion.
The Great One.
The Brahma Bull.
A multi-time world champion.
A successful movie star.
Did he really have to have that moment too?
Greedy, greedy, greedy! That's all I have to say about that. The Rock already has the accolades of closing a WrestleMania many times, he didn't need this one. It rightfully belonged to others.
He even silenced the anonymous RAW general manager. My guess is he will "chime" in again next week to announce the return match between The Miz and John Cena at Extreme Rules. A match where I hope The Miz retains CLEAN!
The Rock Should Have Inserted Himself into the Match

I don't think he should have wrestled, so much as simply being there in some capacity. Referee? At ringside or commentating; it doesn't matter. It would have provided a distraction, but it wouldn't have directly decided the outcome of the match. We would still have had what we wanted: Cena vs. Miz and The Rock in there too. Miz wins, Cena and The Rock face off and everyone goes home happy.
I would have been really happy with The Miz knocking both out and standing tall afterwards. Taunting both supergiants with the championship firmly in his hand with the pyro going off to celebrate his victory would have been awesome as well...pun intended!
We were left with a strange taste in our mouths as if the past was more important than the present or worse, the future.
A Step Backwards for Young Superstars

This is supposed to be the reward for being a hard worker 300-plus days a year with little days off, but instead, WrestlMania XXVII was bombarded with old favorites. Stone Cold, Trish Lawler and The Rock took places that belonged to the future of this business. Spots where mid-carders could have their break-out moment and secure their place on the roster.
WWE didn't show proper respect to their current superstars and Divas, and basically told us all straight out that this time now is bad and the glory days are gone...in a way. They even used precious time slots to allow Snooki and Snoop Dog some air-time and cut out a promising U.S. championship match between two phenomenal athletes in Sheamus and Daniel Bryan.
I have been watching "Z: A True Long Island Story" by Zack Ryder on YouTube (thanks Miz for introducing me to that) and in one episode you see Ryder delivering a message to WWE as he drops a ball to the ground. Nicely put there, Zack. I feel WWE dropped the ball not only on him but also the entire current roster. Just to make a few extra bucks.
Not even a Money in the Bank this year...felt sorry for the guys. No Divas championship match...sorry ladies.
John Cena Deserved His Moment

He is the top face of the company. The defender and promoter of the WWE way of life and the man who makes millions in sales for Vince McMahon.
You could have at least made him stand up at the end of the show. If you look back, he is not even IN the ring after Miz beats him. He is outside somewhere and not even shown on the ground battered.
I felt awful for Captain WWE. I wonder what he was thinking. Did they all agree to this in the first place? Even so, they could have given him a better exit and thank you for all the hard work. Remember that John Cena has suffered many injuries along the years and even if I didn't want him to win the title I wouldn't have minded him being shown at least a few minutes on camera as the show closed.
You owed him that much at least no?
The Miz Deserved His Moment

He is the champion and the next it-boy in the WWE.
There were fireworks, explosions, fans going nuts...for Cena? No. For The Miz? No. For The Rock. Wait a minute, did he just win the title? No. he was just the host.
The Miz has come a long way since The Real World and Tough Enough. He has held many championships, and at the same time, may I remind you. He reached his dream, captured the title from Randy Orton no less and managed to defend it successfully for the last five and a half months. It doesn't matter how he did it; he did it! He is a heel and a heel finds a way.
Would it have been too much to ask to see my guy stand tall in the closing moments of the show? You could even have built in something between The Rock and The Miz. May I inform you that in real life, Mike Mizanin is a devout fan of The Rock and facing him would be his dream match.
The Rock could have let this young, talented, up-and-coming star have his celebration all the while reminding him he is the reason the gold stayed around his waist (storyline wise).
WWE needs a reality check and live in the present. The past is gone and they must look to the future and it is not The Rock. It is John Cena and better yet, WWE Champion The Miz.
Celebrate the Future, Not the Past

I applaud the decision to use great legends of times past, but for them to hog the spotlight is another matter. You can't go back. You can only move forward.
With a company as huge and successful as WWE is, they have limitless potential. It already has great talent just waiting to be used properly. Vince McMahon has been know to take risks and always had that eye for business. He should simply trust his own judgement and follow through with promoting his young talent. That's all they are waiting for and I am certain everyone would outdo themselves if not only to show the legends they are just as good.
I loved seeing The Rock at WrestleMania XXVII. Because of him it made millions, but it shouldn't have rested solely upon his shoulders.
We have one year until John Cena vs. The Rock in Miami. What happens now in between?
