Nick Saban Rips 'Bulls--t' Overreactions to CFB Week 1 in Video, References LSU, Michigan

Nick Saban doesn't have time for anyone overreacting to anything that happened in the first full week of the 2026 college football season.

During Saturday's episode of College Gameday on ESPN, Saban ripped the "bulls--t" overreactions that came out and specifically mentioned the lackluster showing by Michigan against Western Michigan and dominant effort by LSU over Clemson to support his case that it's only one game.

It's certainly understandable to jump to big conclusions after one game because that's the only evidence we have to go on until more games get played.

Someone watching LSU put up 51 against Clemson could be forgiven for suggesting Lane Kiffin will lead the Tigers to a national title.

Did that game tell us more about LSU, who was already assumed to be very good based on being ranked No. 11 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, or how far Clemson has fallen from when it was the premiere program in the country?

The answer is probably a combination of both, but we won't know more about LSU until we see it against teams like Mississippi, Texas A&M, Alabama and Texas later in the season.

Michigan, though, doesn't really feel like anyone is overreacting to what happened. Everyone saw the Wolverines get bailed out by a controversial clock ruling that allowed it to get a second Hail Mary attempt off against Western Michigan.

Credit to Michigan for completing the Hail Mary to steal a 13-12 win, but why is one of the most prestigious programs in the country being held to six points for 59 minutes, 59 seconds against a solid-but-not-spectacular MAC opponent?

Head coach Kyle Whittingham and his team can put those bad vibes entirely behind them with a strong outing on Saturday in a high-profile game against No. 11 Oklahoma.

If Michigan performs well and wins the game, no one will care about what happened in Week 1.
