WWE Wrestlemania 27: Power Ranking the Top 25 Superstars in the Biz Right Now
Hello, Buzzers, Buzz is back.
Who's the best WWE superstar right now? Who's been on top and who's career is going down the hill? Who's the biggest draw of this era?
Those might be some questions asked by WWE fans as they watch their favorite show. Honestly speaking, it's always hard to determine the number one superstar because you'll always have different opinions using different criteria.
Furthermore, many superstars might not stay consistent all year long and their careers might witness some rises and falls at certain moments.
As I watched RAW, Smackdown and other PPVs in the past few months, I started asking myself the same questions. I mean I noticed that many superstars have been struggling and working hard to make an impact and solidify themselves as tough competitors in this business.
There are many superstars who I respect and can't argue that they are among the best. But still, there are others who just seem irrelevant either due to lack of charisma and character, or due to the horrible booking by WWE.
In this slide show, I decided to rank the top 25 superstars in WWE right now. This won't be based on skills only.
I based my rankings on the current status of each superstar, performance in matches every now and then, achievements in the past few months, entertainment, skills, popularity (whether faces or heel), consistency and relevance, in addition to the impact he/she has on the show.
My personal preferences did affect my choices to a certain limit but not in all rankings and I still ranked superstars who I don't like as fairly as I can.
P.S. Non-wrestling personalities won't be included because I don't want Michael Cole and Vickie Guerrero on this list.
We're officially on the road to Wrestlemania 27. It will be the best event to help us judge the performances of rising superstars there. This event might witness the beginning of a new era and the rise of new superstars to the top.
Until then, let's take a look at the top 25 superstars in the biz right now.
Who Was Close To Making the List?
1 of 28
Those are the superstars who were close to make it on the list, but for a reason, I couldn't find a spot for them.
I'll give a brief explanation for each one.
Mark Henry: The only reason I added him here is because he's been given a brief feud. But I'm sure that he'll be heading nowhere after this. Some people might think that I'm being unfair, but where would you think he would have been had he not been involved in those angles? As I said, those brief segments were enough to allow him and make it here. Maybe his victory over Sheamus was just to increase the Celtic Warrior's frustration.
Christian: It seems his return isn't official yet. So I can't rank him since he's been out for several months. However, I still mentioned him here because his appearance at the Elimination Chamber match was great.
Jack Swagger: I still think he has no clear direction. Sure he was able to beat Kofi Kingston on Smackdown. But I felt that this match was done to sell Kingston's injury rather than as a push for Swagger.
Ted Dibiase: Ever since he left Legacy, he's been randomly booked and thrown into different feuds. The only legit and long rivalry he had was against Goldust and Aksana. Furthermore, Maryse's addition never helped him and it only made the Sexiest of the Sexy lose her spot as a Divas Championship contender. Even his father's millionaire character and Million Dollar Championship couldn't push him further.
Natalya: Honestly speaking, I wanted to add her but there are Divas who are now ranked above her. She had a good Divas Title reign but as soon as she lost, she disappeared from competition.
Beth Phoenix: She definitely belongs on the list. She's been destroying Laycool ever since she returned. But unfortunately, we haven't seen her in the last two weeks. I only hope they're preparing something big for her. Until then, I think I won't include her in the list right now.
Special Mention: Jerry "The King" Lawler
2 of 28
Even though Jerry Lawler looked good during his feud against Miz, I decided not to include him in the list. The whole involvement of the King was done just to honor him after all years of hard work in WWE.
The whole thing seems to lead to a Wrestlemania match against Michael Cole and I have no problem with it. It might even be more awesome if Lawler manages to hit the piledriver on Cole.
Anyway, I know that he looked better than many superstars, but I kept him out, and instead, I gave him a special mention in a separate slide.
25. Nexus (without CM Punk)
3 of 28
My list begins with Nexus.
I'm referring to the group without their leader, CM Punk, because I ranked him alone. I know that he's part of the stable, but since he's the leader of the group, I decided to distinguish him. In fact, I gave him a very high ranking.
More than eight months ago, Nexus made their shocking debut on RAW. No one can deny that this was one of the most exciting debuts in a very long time.
Since then, several superstars left due to injuries or changes and new superstars were added. Right now, David Otunga is the only original member left. The stable has a new leader, and honestly speaking, they're still relevant because of him.
What is left for Nexus? I think that they have nothing to do. Even Mayson Ryan couldn't add anything to the stable and his impact never lasted long.
They dominated for a while in the Royal Rumble match but were quickly destroyed once John Cena joined the match.
As I said, they're still relevant because of CM Punk, and he's the reason that made me add them to the list. Otherwise, they could have barely made it in the honorable mentions slide.
24. R-Truth
4 of 28
What's up? Well, nothing really major, I guess.
R-Truth is another superstar who has been thrown in numerous matches and segments with no specific direction. However, unlike the superstars mentioned in the previous slides, he's been appearing in somehow high profile matches. He was part of many number one contender matches for the WWE Title.
His involvement in the Elimination Chamber match was more of a joke. But at least he's been involved in it unlike others. I'll add that the crowd still likes his "What's up?" song.
Nothing more to add. I'm not a big fan of him, but I can't deny that he's a talented superstar.
23. Eve Torres
5 of 28
A few months ago, Eve was nothing more than R-Truth's valet and dancer. She still wrestled in some matches but she didn't seem to be receiving a Divas Title shot anytime soon. Her closest moments to the Divas Championship were fighting next to the champion in tag-team matches. She also had a chance in a number one contenders match but failed.
However, at the Royal Rumble, RAW's anonymous GM interrupted the two-on-one handicap match that was supposed to take place between then-Divas Champion, Natalya, and Laycool. Michael Cole announced on behalf of the GM that the match will become a fatal four way match, and Eve was introduced as the fourth competitor.
The match came to conclusion with Eve pinning Layla and winning her second Divas Championship Title. Since then, she's been earning some big victories. She was able to pin Melina three weeks ago, and one week later, she pinned Natalya in a Divas Title rematch.
I think that winning a Fatal Four Way match that includes some of WWE's top Divas, and then pinning the likes of Melina and Natalya is more than enough to make me add Eve on this list.
I'll have to say that she did improve in the ring, but she still has a lot of work ahead of her in order to be considered as one of the best Divas.
22. Santino Marella
6 of 28
Anybody surprised here? If yes, can I ask why? You might think that he's a comedian who has no place on this list and that he should be in a standing that has Hornswoggle instead. But I'll have to disagree here.
While I'm not really into excessive comedy used by WWE, but that's not the reason I added Santino Marella on the list. Instead, I ranked him here because I think he's been doing a great job lately.
His involvement in many matches and against many superstars like Sheamuse showed how over he is with the crowd. His cobra punch, as ridiculous as it looks, drives people crazy every time he gets ready to hit it.
He was able to win the Tag-Team Titles with his partner, Vladimir Kozlov, after beating Corre members, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater.
Of course, I can't end this without mentioning his performance at the Royal Rumble. Maybe it can't be called a performance as he spent most of the time under the ring, but he was the last eliminated superstar, and for a moment, it seemed that he was about to win the match.
21. Kelly Kelly
7 of 28
Last year, Smackdown's Divas division suffered a huge blow when Mickie James was released and Beth Phoenix suffered an injury. With those two Divas out, Kelly Kelly found herself alongside Tiffany as the only contenders left against the dominating Laycool at that time.
It wasn't long before WWE suspended Tiffany due to a domestic issue involving her with her real-life husband, Drew McIntyre. This was followed by Serena's release.
Since Rosa Mendes was nothing more than a "rope-jumping" valet at that time, Kelly Kelly was the only legit contender left to compete against then-Co-Divas Champions, Michelle McCool and Layla.
However, after WWE decided to unify the Women's and Divas Titles, the Barbie Diva was out of the equation as the new unified title became a cross-brand belt.
Kelly kept appearing in several matches with numerous Divas, but she still seemed irrelevant most of the times. Few weeks ago, she started a segment with Drew McIntyre that never led to anything.
However, things looked completely different when she attacked Vickie Guerrero at the Royal Rumble and helped Edge retain his World Heavyweight Championship.
This made Guerrero book her in a mixed tag-team match with Edge against Dolph Ziggler and Laycool for the World Heavyweight Championship. Vickie even banned Edge from using the spear. Yes, as weird as it might sound, Kelly was literally defending the World Title alongside the Champion, Edge.
During this episode, Kelly showed some improvement on the mic in the opening promo, and she even showed some improvement in the ring too. She was able to pull the victory for her team after hitting a spear on Layla.
Unfortunately for her, she got fired a few minutes later. But she was hired back at the Elimination Chamber PPV. Again on Smackdown, she helped Edge win his match.
Now, I know that she still have no achievements, but I think she deserves to be on this list and it's not only because of her improvement. Kelly is currently the most popular Diva in WWE. You can notice this from the very loud pops she receives every time she her music is played.
Her return at the Elimination Chamber was met with a huge ovation from the fans. I think that Kelly is finally on her way to win her first ever championship belt.
20. Lay-Cool
8 of 28
I know what you're thinking. Another Diva(s)? Anyway, no worries here as this will be the last slide including Divas.
Even though I've never been a fan of them, I can't deny that they were the only relevant Divas in WWE. They are the only women in the company to be involved in most Divas feuds and matches especially for the Divas Title.
At certain moments, it seemed that they were ruled out of the equation after they were humiliated by Natalya and Beth Phoenix. But this lasted for a short time only as they quickly invoked their rematch clause at the Royal Rumble where they failed to retain the title.
As I said, they are the only Divas who remained consistent and relevant for a long period of time, unlike the other Divas. Furthermore, they are the only Divas to have a legit storyline.
Right now, it seems that their split is coming sooner than we think. Controversies are becoming more apparent in every match they wrestle.
Honestly speaking, I was waiting for this for months. I never liked their naughty girls from high school characters and I always felt that they were acting like 10-year old girls.
It will be interesting to see how they will break up, but it's obvious that Michelle McCool will be the one to start the split. This will eventually lead to a face turn for Layla.
19. Triple H
9 of 28
I'm sure some people are wondering why Triple H is here, and I know what's on their mind.
How can I rank someone who's been out for nearly a year above other superstars who's been wrestling and putting their bodies on the line to entertain us? My simple answer is, "It's all about impact."
When I first started writing this, I wasn't going to include The Game. I mean he's been out for nearly 10 months after losing to Sheamus at Extreme Rules.
However, I decided to add him given the impact he made as soon as he returned. He received a good ovation and directly challenged the Dead Man to a match Wrestlemania 27. Okay, maybe that wasn't a challenge, but any one with half brain can understand what the stare down meant.
His return and his coming match against Undertaker are now the top news in WWE.
I know that putting him above others like Jack Swagger, Ted Dibiase and R-Truth might be unfair considering that they had numerous matches during his hiatus.
However, as I said, it's all about impact, and had HHH not been on hiatus in the last few months, he would have been ranked higher on this list.
18. Undertaker
10 of 28
The same thing I said about Triple H applies to the Undertaker. He's been out for several months but his return immediately made him a top story in WWE again. Again, it's all about impact.
Now I ranked Undertaker higher for several reasons. Triple H has been out for a longer time. Furthermore, the 2.21.11 vignettes played were the top wrestling buzz of the month, and they might end up being among the top stories of 2011.
Some people might say that Triple H received louder pops than the Undertaker, but that's not surprising. I mean Undertaker's return was expected after we saw those vignettes in the last three weeks. However, Triple H's return was shocking and unexpected. Any surprise return will be met similarly by fans.
As I said in the previous slide, Undertaker would have also been ranked higher hadn't he not been out for the past few months.
17. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes
11 of 28
I don't know if I should have included Cody Rhodes here. I mean he's been out for weeks after Rey Mysterio broke his nose (kayfabe). But I think that he's been looking better than many other superstars.
After the end of Legacy, Cody Rhodes adopted a new narcissistic character and called himself "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. This happened after he was voted as the most handsome guy in WWE by the Divas themselves.
Since then, he's been playing weekly grooming vignettes informing us how to become dashing. He started making his way to the top step by step. At certain moments, it seemed that he was going nowhere. But he was able to win the Tag-Team Titles and hold them for a while with Drew McIntyre.
His best challenge came when he competed in the World Heavyweight number one contender's match. His last match was against Rey Mysterio before he took a brief time off.
Some people were saying that his "Dashing" gimmick elevated him and helped him become a regular on Smackdown. However, they thought that it's not a World Champion character. I mean imagine Rhodes competing for the World Title while being obsessed about being hit in the face.
But things looked different when he returned to Smackdown and brutally attacked Rey Mysterio. It's safe to say that this feud will definitely help Rhodes solidify his status.
In summary, Cody Rhodes has been involved in many high profile matches lately, and I think it's fair to rank him here.
16. Kofi Kingston
12 of 28
What can I say about Kofi Kingston? I'm not sure if he angered someone backstage, but his case seems obscure.
After Kingston was drafted to Smackdown last year, many people expected a better future for the Ghanaian superstar. At first, he seemed to be going the right way as he was able to win the Intercontinental Championship.
This lead to a feud with Drew McIntyre who was the real "Chosen One" at that time. If you remember, McIntyre was having a brief feud against Smackdown's GM, Theofre Long too. Kingston was able to overcome all the odds and beat the Scottish superstar in the end.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I guess that McIntyre's push as the "Chosen One" ended after this feud. I know he feuded with a returning Matt Hardy, but he hasn't been the same since then.
Few months later, Kingston lost the championship to Dolph Ziggler after a series of matches that ended at Night of Champions with Ziggler gaining the upper hand.
Since then, Kofi seemed to have no direction and he became a regular mid-card with some high profile matches every once in a while.
However, in a surprising outcome, he regained the Intercontinental Title after beating Ziggler on Smackdown's first episode in 2011. Sadly enough, however, this match turned out to be nothing more than a transition for Ziggler who was directly added to the number one contender's match for World Heavyweight Championship. Ziggler ended up winning the match and thus becoming the new number one contender.
But still, it was nice to see Kingston hold the secondary prestigious title again. In the following weeks, he was involved in numerous matches against Jack Swagger and other superstars. He failed to earn a spot in the Elimination Chamber match after losing to Drew McIntyre in the qualifying match.
He had a brief feud against the Royal Rumble winner, Alberto Del Rio, which ended with him losing and getting attacked. His last match on Smackdown was against Swagger and he ended up tapping out to the ankle lock after selling his arm injury during the contest.
Overall, Kofi has been struggling for months. But I still ranked him a bit high because he's holding the Intercontinental Title. Furthermore, I still consider him an upper mid-card superstar who can still make it to the top one day.
15. Drew McIntyre
13 of 28
Can we say that Drew McIntyre is finally back? Maybe not yet, but he definitely seems to be back on the right track. At least we can say this, if compared to his run in the past few months after his push as the "Chosen One" ended.
Last year, McIntyre seemed to be one of the superstars who were receiving a mega push similar to Brock Lesnar and Sheamus. I mean he was introduced by Vince McMahon himself as the next big thing in 2009, and was handpicked by the Chairman as the next World Champion.
However, things began to look different in the middle of 2010. He lost the Intercontinental Title to Kofi Kingston. Later, he lost to a returning Matt Hardy, who was attacked by McIntyre himself few weeks before.
During this time, he was still acting as the "Chosen One," getting signed papers by Vince McMahon and forcing Smackdown's GM, Theodre Long, to enforce all the Chairman's orders. He even humiliated him more than once.
However, after his loss to Hardy, Long informed McIntyre that his work visa has expired and that he should be leaving the country very soon (this was a real issue). Since then, he was lost in the shuffle like many other superstars.
He still managed to win the Tag-Team Titles with Cody Rhodes, but their reign never lasted long.
Right now, he's involved in a storyline with Kelly Kelly which doesn't seem to be working right for him. But this angle made him interact with the current World Heavyweight Champion, Edge, which should be a good sign for the "Chosen One."
Furthermore, he was part of the Elimination Chamber match last Sunday where he put a great performance and impressed the fans.
14. Daniel Bryan
14 of 28
Whatever happened to the American Dragon? He might need a new character, but is this considered a reasonable excuse for the way WWE are booking him? I don't think so.
Daniel Bryan is considered by many fans as the best current wrestler in the world. Well I'm not the one to judge how true this is, but I can't deny that he's an amazing athlete. I really enjoy most of his matches more than many other matches.
After the infamous "tiegate" incident that led to his release, Bryan returned to WWE at Summerslam as part of Team WWE against Nexus.
Since then, he was able to impress the fans with his great in-ring skills. His feud against his former mentor, the Miz, further pushed his face status, and he became over with the fans at that time. Many members here agree with me that he was able to steal the show in all the PPVs he competed in.
His matches at Night of Champions, Hell in a Cell, Bragging Rights and Survivor Series were all considered as the matches of the night by most fans.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been competing in live PPVs (he wrestled in dark matches) since Survivor Series.
Moreover, he's not taken seriously anymore as his story with the Bella twins and Gail Kim seemed to be overshadowing his current run. I mean he hasn't been involved in any feud for a while and this love angle seemed as his only legit storyline.
But things might change soon as it seems that a rivalry between him and Sheamus is on the way. This shall lead to a great match at Wrestlemania.
I still ranked him higher than others because he's a great wrestler and he's been holding the US Title for more than five months.
13. Kane
15 of 28
Kane is another curious case here. After a somehow impressive World Heavyweight Championship reign that lasted for more than five months, the Devil's Favorite Demon seems to be slightly dropping back to the same status he was in prior to his feud against Undertaker.
This seems like a long call, but unfortunately, it might become more apparent with time.
Last Summer, Kane finally won another deserved World Title after years of struggling where he became a jobber at certain moments. During this reign, he amazingly defeated the Phenom, the Undertaker, in three consecutive PPVs.
His next feud against Edge wasn't really interesting, and he ended up losing the title at TLC in a Fatal Four Way match. He failed to regain the championship on Smackdown after losing in a Last Man Standing match against Edge.
I can't say that he's back to the mid-card section right now as he's still competing in high profile matches. He was part of the Elimination Chamber match where he showed dominance in most parts and even eliminated two superstars before losing.
His last match on Smackdown was against Rey Mysterio where he lost. We'll have to wait and see what's next for the Big Red Machine.
12. Big Show
16 of 28
What can be said about Big Show that isn't said yet? Do I need to remind you about his status on Smackdown? We all know it by now.
Since moving to the blue brand, he's been on a huge run where he went into a weird path of destruction and many superstars were squashed in the process. I described it as weird because he was heading nowhere with this run.
But I'll have to say that this path had been slowing down lately. His involvements in the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber weren't impressive.
Right now, he's stuck in a feud against Corre, and particularly, against Ezekiel Jackson. Honestly speaking, I think that his dominant run will end here. I guess WWE are building Jackson as a powerhouse monster and Show might be the best to put him over.
11. Sheamus
17 of 28
The breakout superstar of 2009 isn't living his best moments right now in WWE. If you like reading backstage news, then you probably read about the de-push rumors that were attributed to RAW TV producer, Kevin Dunn. It is said that Dunn is not a fan of the Celtic Warrior, and that this is the main reason behind his current status.
Honestly speaking, I don't think that Sheamus is de-pushed. I still find him relevant despite losing to Mark Henry.
I know that he's been on a losing streak in 2011, but he was still in the main event scene. It's not like he was jobbing to Trent Barreta or Zack Ryder. His losses were against rising superstars like Morrison and main eventers like Randy Orton. I could even say that his loss against Santino Marella was part of his feud against Morrison.
Unfortunately, IWC sometimes fail to understand the building of each superstar. Sheamus won WWE Title few months after his debut. This made him a breakout superstar who made an immediate impact. It didn't mean that he should be winning all the time. WWE could have easily made him dominate all his opponents but that wasn't their purpose here.
The title win helped cement his place as a top contender, and it was successful at first. I know that his title reigns weren't impressive, but at least he's now considered a major star in WWE. Anyway, I'm not saying that he's in his best days now, but this has nothing to do with the immediate World Title win.
When he lost his second title at Night of Champions, Sheamus seemed to be lost in the shuffle. However, he was able to win the King of the Ring tournament and make his way back to the top. But that was for a brief time only as he hasn't done anything as the King yet.
Anyway, I think that his current run has nothing to do with being de-pushed. I think that he was supposed to feud with Triple H once he returns, but due to the change of plans, Sheamus ended up being lost.
I'm sure that his loss against Mark Henry was part of a storyline to increase his frustration and cause him to become more intense. It seems that his next feud will be against the US Champion, Daniel Bryan.
10. Corre
18 of 28
I decided to put the whole group in one slide because, unlike Nexus, the Corre are all equal. Honestly speaking, I can't disagree with this.
I mean sure Wade Barret might still be the main focus, but the others aren't accompanying him as sidekicks only. They're all booked the same way in my opinion.
Even when Barret joined the Elimination Chamber match, he said that he's representing the Corre who had no problem with this.
Anyway, I think that this group is currently doing a better job than Nexus. Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater are the current Tag-Team Champions. As for Ezekiel Jackson, I think that he is their strongest force. I would even say that he's looking better than Barret. You can notice this in most of their encounters with Big Show.
I ranked them high because Barret is already a top superstar, and the Corre aren't affecting his run.
9. Dolph Ziggler
19 of 28
I don't know if I should include him here since he was fired by Teddy Long, even if it was kayfabe. But I just can't ignore him given his improvement last year.
Many people consider Dolph Ziggler as one of the most improved superstars in 2010. He had some amazing matches especially against Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan.
He held the Intercontinental Title for several months before moving to the World Title scene. During his feud with Edge, he was able to win the World Heavyweight Champion in a controversial way with the help of his girl friend, Vickie Guerrero.
Unfortunately for him, his reign lasted for few minutes only as Smackdown's GM, Teddy Long, interrupted the World Title coronation ceremony that was held by Guerrero. After losing his title to Edge few minutes later, he found himself future endeavored after Long fired him.
I don't know when Ziggler will return, but it's fair to say that he was one of the best rising superstars last year. Many people might hate Vickie Guerrero, but she was an essential part in his run in the past few months and she definitely further pushed his heel character.
It will be interesting to see how he will go on without her if WWE decided to split them. I expect him to join the RAW roster soon.
8. Rey Mysterio
20 of 28
The Ultimate Underdog is number eight on the list. Many rumors reported that Rey Mysterio is close to retirement due to many injuries he suffered during his career. With this said, I won't be surprised to see him out by next year.
Anyway, despite those news, no one can deny that Mysterio still looks impressive in his matches. We all remember that he's always been one of the most exciting superstars in the past.
Even though he's not the same now, but he can still put a great performance in matches and he proved this at the Elimination Chamber match and many other matches.
Right now, his next feud will be against Cody Rhodes. We'll have to wait and see how this feud will end.
I ranked him high because he's still involved in matches against top superstars. Furthermore, he's still considered as one of the most loved superstars by the crowd in the arenas.
7. John Morrison
21 of 28
He might be one of the most amazing and athletic superstars these days. John Morrison has recently been the main spot of every PPV with a his continuous flashy moments in all the matches he participates in.
Since his feud with Sheamus started, he's been doing a great job. He was able to beat the Celtic Warrior more than one time.
He had the chance to face the WWE Champion and his former partner, the Miz, but he failed to capture his first ever World Title after a great match.
His performance at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber was eye catching, but again, he came up short.
I'm not sure about his current status, but he still seems to be in high profile matches, and I'm sure that his big-time moment is getting closer.
6. The Miz
22 of 28
Many people might think that he should be higher. Honestly speaking, I might agree with you but his case is a bit debatable. I mean he's the current WWE Champion after all.
I've never been a fan of the Miz, but unlike many members here, I like the way he's booked as a champion. Whether you like to admit it or not, Miz's character screams underdog. I will never take him as a serious contender who can destroy his opponents without the need of some help or underhanded tactics. His physical shape can't help him and his in ring skills aren't good enough to make him a fighting champion.
Therefore, the current booking might be the best thing for him. He did pull some clean wins though after making use of his opponents' mistakes and this could be another good strategy.
Anyway, I'll have to say that Miz has improved lately, and his performance in the tag-team match on RAW was good.
I ranked him at number six because the superstars above him has been better. Furthermore, his feud against Jerry "The King" Lawler was a major part of his reign after his rivalry against Randy Orton ended. I know that Miz won cleanly in the end, but I won't consider his victory against a 61-year old man very impressive.
This rivalry was a nice tribute to Lawler's career, but from now on, I want to judge Miz after watching him wrestle against young and established superstars.
5. Randy Orton
23 of 28
Randy Orton is currently considered as the second biggest superstar in WWE after John Cena. Many people here still feel that he is far better as a heel and I can't argue a lot with this. But honestly speaking, I don't really hate him as a face.
I should also say that we need more top faces in the time being since most rising superstars are heels.
Anyway, I think that this is a fair ranking for the Viper. He's been on top for several months and he stayed consistent most of the time.
Furthermore, he's over with the crowd, and he always comes out to a huge ovation. It seems that people in the arena are fans of the antics he shows during his matches.
It will be interesting to see how his feud against CM Punk will end.
4. Alberto Del Rio
24 of 28
Alberto Del Rio is a great superstar. But you already know that. He deserves to be ranked high and you should know that and accept it by now.
The Mexican Aristocrat has been one of the fastest rising superstars lately. Since his debut, many people were certain that this guy is destined to success in WWE.
However, his prosperity exceeded all expectations that some people already started calling him overrated without any logical reason.
Let's think about Del Rio for a while. Does he lack anything?
In ring skills? Check.
Mic skills? Check. Some people think that his broken English language is holding him back. But on the contrary, I'll say that this is the best thing about him.
Character? Check.
Charisma? Check.
What else can be said? This superstar is the full package, so why doesn't he deserve to be pushed? Why should he wait for a year or two before receiving a push? What would he be doing during this time?
Are there other deserving superstars? Maybe. Does this make him undeserving? Absolutely not. Some people are saying that he shouldn't have won the Royal Rumble without any previous achievements. Well, everything has a first time, and this is his first achievement.
As I said before, the problem with IWC members is that they fail to understand how superstars get pushed.
They believe that any superstar who debuts should be built for few years first, and should be involved in secondary title feuds before he starts feuding for the World Title.
Well allow me to say that if this had been the case with every superstar in WWE then it would have been one of the most boring shows ever.
The creative team in WWE is booking the show similar to other sports.
Like any other type of sport, some people make it quickly to the top, while others might take more time. That's the case in WWE. Some people make it fast while others struggle. That's the good thing about it. Surprises should always be expected.
We can't say that Del Rio shouldn't have won because there are other more deserving superstars. This really sounds ridiculous. I mean even if it's true, this doesn't make him untalented and undeserving.
By the way, Mexico is WWE's second largest market, so this is also a good business wise decision. It will be interesting to see how WWE will deal with Sin Cara AKA Mistico (another Mexican legend) as soon as he debuts.
Some people are comparing Albero's push to Sheamus and I'll have to disagree here. Sheamus won the WWE Title directly after facing some low-card superstars and jobbers. However, Del Rio has faced many solid faces until now.
John Morrison, R-Truth, Matt Hardy (prior to his release), Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio. He was able to defeat them all. He was also involved in matches against Edge, Christian and Big Show.
To end this debate, if you think that WWE are overrating him, then why should I underrate him on this list? It's as simple as this. As long as he's able to entertain us, I won't say that he's shoved down our throats.
Anyway, I'm not trying to change the haters' mind about him here. I was just giving my two cents, and it's a matter of opinions in the end.
3. John Cena

Let the riot begin!
Or maybe after a second thought, I think that people here are mature enough to accept this ranking. I mean seriously, do you think I ranked him high? If yes, tell me why in the comments section.
Last year, John Cena stayed out of the World Title picture for months due to his feud with Nexus. However, he remained the main superstar on RAW and his rivalry was the top story of the show.
Just when we thought that Cena was done with Nexus after TLC, CM Punk came out of nowhere and renewed the rivalry after he became the stable's new leader. However, the feud didn't last long, and it didn't have a clear ending as each of the two superstars started a new feud with other superstars.
Right now, Cena is back to the World Title picture after winning RAW's Elimination Chamber match. He'll be facing the current WWE Champion, the Miz, at the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania 27.
Even though it's still too early to give predictions, but the majority believes that Cena has high chances of becoming a 10-time World Champion.
Until we witness something new, Cena will always be ranked high on such lists. I wonder if the Fruity Pebbles have something to do with this.
2. Edge

Yes. The Rated "R" Superstar is ranked second on the list and I think it's a reasonable ranking.
As I watched Edge last year on RAW, I never thought I would see him on top again. I mean we all remember how he looked lost during the WWE vs. Nexus rivalry. Sure he was still in the main event scene, but he seemed to be added as a filler with no clear direction.
However, everything changed as soon as he moved to Smackdown. The last time we saw him struggling was during his segment with RAW's anonymous GM when he ended up destroying the laptop. This lead to his complete face turn and move to the blue brand.
Since then he's been on an impressive run. He was able to win the World Heavyweight Championship at TLC in a great fatal four way match. He retained his title later against Kane in an intense Last Man Standing match.
He had a a nice feud against Dolph Ziggler and his former wife (kayfabe), Vickie Guerrero, even though it ended in an awkward way. During this rivalry, he lost the World Title for few hours before regaining it again an thus becoming an 11-time World Champion.
He had another brutal match at Elimination Chamber where he outlasted five other men to retain his title.
Overall, he's been doing a great job since moving to Smackdown as he became the top superstar on Friday Nights.
Before I end this, I just want to address those who said that he didn't have to win another World Title. I'll have to disagree with people saying this because we should remember that this is his first reign ever as a face.
For years, people have been calling Edge a paper champion due to the way he won and defended most of his titles. I never accepted those critics because those reigns created the Rated "R" Superstar and the Ultimate Opportunist we all knew. He was considered as the best heel during those reigns. But still, it was great to see him have a credible title reign as a face.
Unfortunately, the tenth reign ended after two months due to controversy between him and Vickie Guerrero. But he quickly handled this and won the title back. In my books, this still counts as the same reign since he never lost the title in a legit match.
1. CM Punk

Finally, introducing the number one superstar on the list. He's none other than the Straight Edge Superstar, CM Punk.
This might look illogical for many people here but I have my own reasons for ranking him first.
Last year, CM Punk was leading a promising stable called Straight Edge Society. For a moment, we thought that this group was destined to success. However, due to horrible booking and injuries, in addition to Serena's release. Punk and the group turned into a joke. The only things that kept them great were Punk's epic promos.
After moving to RAW, he suffered an injury and joined the commentary team for a while. This move was welcomed by most fans and they really liked him. But it didn't take him long before he left and went back to the ring after attacking John Cena and becoming the new leader of the falling Nexus.
During his short rivalry with John Cena, Punk started another feud with Randy Orton after costing him his WWE Title match at the Royal Rumble. This was done as a revenge for what Orton did to Punk more than two years ago.
CM Punk has been looking better ever since he returned to the ring after his brief commentary time. He put a great performance at Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber. Furthermore, as I said before, he's the only thing that is making Nexus relevant as they became boring long time ago.
Right now, he's considered as the best overall superstar in WWE. He has amazing mic skills, ring skills and charisma. Furthermore, he's currently the best heel in the organization (unless you prefer Vickie Guerrero's heel character).
Even though he sometimes seems to be over with the fans, but he still knows how to make the crowd hate him when needed.
However, more people are beginning to love him in the arenas and this was obvious in the Elimination Chamber match. He was cheered by most fans. I think that he would make a great anti-hero in the future.
Now many people might agree with me here, but they might not find this as a logical reason to rank him first.
Honestly speaking, I ranked him first because I consider him as the only superstar who can wrestle anybody, anywhere, and stay relevant. He can work in any card and stay credible. This somehow reminds me of Chris Jericho.
Punk can be brilliant in any role given to him. Currently, I consider him as the most entertaining superstar in WWE.
I'm looking forward to his match at Wrestlemania 27 against Orton. I expect him to win the match and continue his rivalry against John Cena if the latter becomes the WWE Champion by then.
The End
