Liverpool FC: Why Fernando Torres Should Go in the Summer
The Liverpool FC ship is currently sinking. How long will it be before the club goes the same way as Leeds United or Charlton Athletic and find themselves languishing in the lower leagues?
It's happened in the past, no team is too big for the drop.
Now it’s important to note that I am a Liverpool fan, always have been and always will be. And even I can see there is no way out of this slump without making radical change. And no, hiring Kenny Daglish is not the solution.

Daglish has already lost two games and drawn one and while I have nothing but respect for the Liverpool legend he is not the long term solution to the crisis at Anfield. I believe radical changes are needed to turn the club around in future seasons.
This summer I believe we should sell Fernando Torres. The Spaniard has underperformed all season long and still there have been rumours of clubs willing to pay huge amounts for the striker. Yes he is world class but he is no longer enough to drag Liverpool into the top four.
Between them, Torres and Steven Gerrard have pulled an average squad higher up the table than it should have for a few seasons now. But with Liverpool currently in mid table mediocrity it just shows you can’t rely too heavily on just two players. Even if Torres returns to form in the latter part of this season it may still be time to go for the striker. I say if he wants to leave, let him.
But what are the benefits of selling the great talisman? Well, money for a start. Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid (Maybe even Chelsea) would be interested if Torres was to leave. All of these teams would pay over the odds for Torres and this would give the Liverpool manager a chance to rebuild the squad.
The money raised from the Torres transfer could go towards a few players that would benefit the squad more than the Spaniard. The Liverpool defence is in dire need of restructuring with performances this season showing there is no organisation at the back. The money could be used to freshen up the attack and bring in two new players so that the front men are not isolated like Torres is time and time again.
Selling Torres would give the reds a whole new approach to the way they play. They would no longer rely on Torres to be the saviour. But could have a good squad of players instead of having to rely on average ones such as Ryan Babel, Lucas and David N’gog.
With new players and new focus Liverpool could start to return to the form that has long escaped them. The over reliance on individuals has finally caught up with them and it’s time for the squad to be freshened up and the deadwood dropped.
I for one hope this summer that we see a new manager in charge and a new approach. Say bye to Torres and bye to Daglish and we may see Liverpool reborn to be a force to be reckoned with once again.
What are your thoughts? Would you be happy to see Torres go or do you think Liverpool would be mad to sell him?
