Malachi Toney Makes History as Heisman Buzz Stirs with Record-Setting Stats for Miami vs. Pittย
The connection between Miami stars Malachi Toney and Darian Mensah hit another high point on Saturday against Pitt.
Toney gave his Heisman candidacy a big boost with a school-record 16 catches against the Panthers. He finished with 194 yards and three touchdowns.
Toney's first-half stat line with 12 receptions, 159 yards and two touchdowns is something that has only been done five times in the past 15 seasons by a Power 4 player.
This marks the second consecutive week and fourth time in seven games Toney has recorded at least 10 catches. It's his fifth time breaking the 100-yard mark.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, Toney is third in Heisman odds at +500 (bet $100 to win $500). He is behind Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (+105) and Mensah (+300).
The Hurricanes teammates are in a difficult spot in that they can't differentiate themselves much in the Heisman race because of how much their mutual success is entwined.
Toney was a standout as a freshman in 2025 with Carson Beck as his quarterback, leading FBS with 109 receptions. This season has been a level-up moment. His two touchdowns in the first half against Pitt gave him 10 for the season, matching his 2025 total.
Mensah entered play on Saturday with 32 incompletions out of 167 attempts. He had 18 more completions to Toney entering the day than he did incomplete passes.
