Miami Hurricanes: Meet Sebastian
Meet Sebastian
Miami’s mascot has been the ibis since 1926, when Miami’s yearbook was named “The Ibis.” The first instance of Sebastian making an appearance at a Miami football game was 1958 when then-student John Stormont dressed up in a homemade ibis suit.
Sebastian’s current look dates back to the 1980s. He is named after the San Sebastian building on campus, which used to be a dormitory, but is now an apartment building.
Sebastian’s Experience
When it comes to being a winner, no one is better than Sebastian. Sebastian has seen some of the greatest players in the history of college football. From Vinny Testaverde and Michael Irvin to Ed Reed and Andre Johnson, Sebastian has seen numerous national champions who not only won, but also won in style.
Sebastian’s Leadership Abilities
The ibis is known for its bravery during hurricanes, and when you look for a leader, you look for someone who will face any situation. That’s Sebastian, for you. When the Hurricanes head out on the field, Sebastian is the one leading them out of the tunnel. It’s not a coincidence that Miami has won so many games with that tradition in place.
What Distinguishes Sebastian from the Rest?
One of Sebastian’s signature cheers is where he spells out “C-A-N-E-S” with his body. That flexibility doesn’t limit itself to the field on Saturdays. Sebastian can adapt himself to numerous environments.
From the friendly confines of Miami Stadium to the intense, tough atmosphere of Lane Stadium, Sebastian’s feathers are never ruffled, and he always displays the bravery that made him so famous.
Sebastian’s Campaign Promises
Sebastian promises to never back down from a challenge, and solve any problem that comes his way.
