Wayne Rooney: Can Split From Sir Alex Ferguson Rid Him of Scandal Past?

Sam WestmorelandOct 20, 2010

Well it's official: The end of the Wayne Rooney Era under Sir Alex Ferguson will soon be drawing to a close. The Manchester United manager announced on Tuesday that Rooney has requested to be transferred from the club, refusing to sign a new deal until it happens.

Is this the best move for the forward, whose steps have been dogged by scandal all season? Would a separation from Ferguson and Man U be the best thing for Rooney?

Here are 20 reasons why leaving Old Trafford could be the best thing that's ever happened to Rooney.

20. Colleen Rooney

1 of 20

Coleen is Rooney's lovely wife. Given his antics with other women, it's safe to say Rooney's on thin ice with her right now.

But a move away from all of the trouble could strongly benefit Rooney's home life, and improve his chances of keeping Coleen.

19. Manchester City?

2 of 20

Sure, they're United's crosstown rivals, but City's fan base is as dedicated and passionate as any. It's a potential destination, and I'm sure Wayne would say there's plenty to be said for staying in Manchester.

18. John Terry

We've been down the "staying put" road before, with another EPL star, Chelsea defender John Terry.

After his affairs, Terry stayed at Stamford Bridge, and people are still condemning him.

If Rooney learned anything from that scandal, I hope it's this: When caught cheating, leave town.

17. Juventus' Support

4 of 20

Juventus' fans are among the world's most dedicated, and all of them would be thrilled if Wayne Rooney decided to come and play for them.

They sure do love their players, and now, one of their players could love them back!

16. Bayern Munich Will Forgive And Forget

5 of 20

German fans love two things: Bayern Munich and beer.

If Wayne Rooney opts to come to Germany, Munich fans will add him to that list.

If he comes to Munich, he'll love two things as well: Beer and Bayern Munich fans.

15. Change in the Tenor Of Media Coverage

The media has been harsh on Rooney during his 2010 stint with United, running the striker through the wringer.

The best way to put a stop to that is to leave in a highly publicized tranfer. Suddenly, everyone forgets your transgressions, and you're fantastic again.

14. Tottenham Could Be Fun

7 of 20

Ok, in all reality, the Spurs can't afford Rooney. But when he sees the dedication and passion of fans like this, he might decide to come for less.

13. Away From Jenny Thompson

8 of 20

Thompson is the prostitute Rooney slept with while his wife was pregnant. Odds are, the best way to keep from doing it again is to leave and find other stomping grounds.

12. Helps Him Avoid WAG Wannabes

9 of 20

Thompson had slept with 13 footballers before Rooney, so she was clearly trolling to be a WAG. Leaving Manchester would help Rooney avoid the golddiggers, and allow him to have sex with groupies instead.

11. Liverpool A Possibility?

10 of 20

Rooney's played in Merseyside before, so he knows how dedicated the fans are in Liverpool. Plus, his presence would give a huge boost to a club and a fan base in need of good news.

10. Coming To America?

11 of 20

Seems outlandish, right? Wrong! With David Beckham's wife Victoria hanging around, it's possible she uses Rooney to get back at her own cheating husband.

It's not like Rooney would turn her down or anything.

Suddenly, LA doesn't sound so bad.

9. Giving Fans Less Ammunition

If Rooney leaves Manchester, he would defuse the other fan bases in the EPL. They wouldn't be able to harass him about his affairs anymore, and he could play in peace. Suddenly, by simply taking his leave from Man U, Rooney will put an end to the torment.

8. A Second Chance

Rooney needs a chance for a fresh start. He doesn't seem to be giving games his all at United anymore, and is clearly frustrated with the direction the club is headed.

Leaving Old Trafford would do just that. In baseball, they call players like Wayne "Change of scenery guys"; players who just need a new team to give them a jolt.

7. Inter Fans Would Worship Rooney

14 of 20

Milano's a long time Inter fan, and if Rooney came to the club, she'd be as excited as the hundreds of thousands of other female Inter fans.

Plus, she's single, and the Italian tabloids hide their athletes' affairs.

6. Chelsea Would Welcome Rooney

15 of 20

Chelsea players have said they'd welcome Rooney to the club, that there's plenty of room for him there. I feel as though Rooney would be more than happy to introduce himself to many of the Blues' faithful.

5. John Terry As Mentor?

A defender mentoring a forward? That doesn't make sense.

Except we're not talking about football. Instead, Terry could become the master to Rooney's student in the art of infidelity.

Mayber, after a year or two, the student will surpass the master.

4. Real Madrid Fans Devoted To the Cause

17 of 20

I feel as though any club that has its own line of designer lingerie is just the place for a player of Rooney's caliber.

I'm sure he would agree.

3. Barcelona's Got the Money and Atmosphere

18 of 20

Barca have the resources and the club strength to appeal to Rooney. Plus, the fans are some of the best in the world.

2. Freedom

Rooney has been bottled up in Sir Alex's system for years now. While he's been able to do some, his creativity hasn't been able to show through.

If Rooney leaves, he could go to a team who will allow him to experiment and be creative. Not only would his career be saved in that case, but he'd be better than he is now.

1. Staying Put?

20 of 20

Then again, a case can be made that there's really no place like home.
