NBA Rumors: Is Allen Iverson Heading To Besiktas Cola Turka, Istanbul?
Seref Yalcin, head of basketball operations of Besiktas Cola Turka,ย confirmed that an offer was made to acquire the services of the formerย regular seasonย MVP Allen Iverson.
He stated that the chances of signing the 11 time All-Star is likely. "His NBA career is over" said Yalcin.
"His stock, however, is still high especially in China. He turnedย a $4 million offerย down citing cultural differences."
"His options are either coming to Europe or going to China" stated Yalcin. "We told his manager Gary Moore that he would feel comfortable playing in Europe for Besiktas Cola Turka.ย The offer is roughly $2 million if he is interested."
Besiktas CT will be competingย in Eurocup this season; which is the second tier club-level European basketball competition, THY Euroleage being the highest level. The team will also be competing against the Euroleague powerhouses Efes Pilsen and Fenerbahce Ulker in the Beko Turkiye Basketbol Ligiย (TBL) for the domestic title.
The team has won one domestic league championship trophy in 1975 and advanced to quarter finalsย in Europe League (2005) andย in Eurocup (2008).
The current roster has no players in Turkish National Basketball Team, โ12 Giant Menโ, that won the silver medal behind the Team USA in FIBA World Championship 2010.
Besiktas Cola Turka is the basketball division of Besiktas JK, which is a multi-branch sportsย club primarily known for its soccer division in Europe.
