Draymond Green Reacts to Kevin Durant's Comments on LeBron James' 76ers Contract in Video

Kevin Durant made headlines when he compared LeBron James joining the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason to his own decision to join the Golden State Warriors ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, which drew a response from former teammate Draymond Green.

"That's KD giving them their respect," Green said of Durant pointing out the last time there were three 20-point scorers on a team was his Warriors squad. "You have to understand the way KD views basketball. The way KD views basketball is very Uncle Drew-ish, this game will and always will be about buckets."

Green also said he doesn't agree with the notion James joining the 76ers is the same as Durant joining the Warriors and also pushed back at Durant's opinion Philadelphia is better than that Golden State squad.

"I don't know that I can agree with that," he said. "I don't really think it works. But that's KD's opinion."

The quote came as Green joked about it on social media as well:

While Durant is right about there being plenty of star power on Philadelphia just like there was when he was criticized for joining Golden State 10 years ago, the circumstances of the situations are much different.

The Warriors were just coming off a championship in 2014-15 and a record-setting 73-win season in 2015-16. They also defeated Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder in a head-to-head matchup in the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, hasn't been past the second round of the playoffs since the 2000-01 season.

What's more, James in the summer ahead of the 2026-27 season is at a very different point of his career than Durant was ahead of the 2016-17 campaign. While the King is still an All-Star, he will also turn 42 years old in December. He is no longer one of the best two or three players in the league.

The 2016-17 season was Durant's age-28 one and not that far removed from when he was the league MVP in 2013-14. He was widely considered one of the best handful of players in the NBA and was at the peak of his career.

That Golden State went on to reach the next three NBA Finals and win two of them following Durant's decision came as anything but a surprise. Philadelphia doing exactly that given where James is at his career would be a surprise.

After all, the 76ers have the fourth-lowest championship odds heading into next season alone behind the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks, per FanDuel.

They are a contender, yes, but they are far from the overpowering force Durant's Warriors were after he joined the fold.

Green seemed to believe the same given his response to Durant's comments.
