Kevin Durant Reacts to LeBron James Joining 76ers, Compares Team to Warriors Dynasty

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant feels the 2026-27 Philadelphia 76ers have earned a comparison to the mid-dynasty Golden State Warriors now that they've added LeBron James.

Durant compared the two teams when speaking to ESPN's Ben Golliver at a charity 3x3 tournament for USA Basketball in California.

"The last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the [Warriors] team I was on," Durant said, per Golliver. "[The 76ers] have got four 25-point scorers on this team. So, hell yeah, I think they're going to be a contender.

"They're going to be a fun team to watch. It's going to be League Pass-worthy."

Durant also told Golliver he "didn't know at all" that James was planning to sign with the Sixers this offseason.

"LeBron is stealth like that," Durant said, per Golliver. "I know there's a lot of noise around him, but you never know what's on his mind.

"I'm happy for him. It's a great decision for him to go to a team that has a good chance to win. Philly is a great fan base, a great market, and it's great for the league. There were so many eyes that were tuned into his decision."

Durant averaged 28.2 points per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder the season prior to when he signed with the Warriors in 2016.

The Warriors, which already boasted two top scorers in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, went on to win back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.

The Sixers were led last season by Tyrese Maxey, who averaged 28.3 points per game, and Joel Embiid, who posted 26.9 points per contest.

The team has since added Jaylen Brown, who averaged 28.7 points last season with the Boston Celtics, and James, who put up 20.9 points per game with the Lakers.

Philadelphia will hope those additions are enough to help the Sixers follow in the Warriors' footsteps by contending for the team's first title since 1983.
