Mohamed Salah in Contract Talks for Transfer to Trabzonspor After Liverpool Exit

Superstar winger Mohamed Salah is reportedly in talks to sign a two-year contract with Turkish football club Trabzonspor this summer, per multiple reports, and is set to fly to Istanbul on Wednesday.

Salah, 34, is a free agent this summer after his contract with Liverpool ran out following the 2025-26 season.

His nine seasons at Liverpool were a massive success, including 257 goals in 442 appearances, a Premier League title and a Champions League title, among other trophies. Over the past decade, he became an Anfield legend, though his final year at the club wasn't without controversy.

Namely, Salah said publicly in December that his relationship with manager Arne Slot and the club in general had deteriorated after a string of matches starting on the bench.

"I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don't have any relationship. I don't know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus," he told reporters. "That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will. It [the situation] is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don't get it. It's like I'm being thrown more under the bus. I don't think I'm the problem. I have done so much for this club. I don't have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone but I earned my position. It's football. It is what it is."

As for his next potential club, joining Trabzonspor would be a massive moment for the club, which last won the Turkish Süper Lig in 2021-22 and finished third last season. The 2021-22 conquest was the club's first Süper Lig title since the 1970-80s, when they claimed six championships in a nine-year span.

Trabzonspor's third-place finish this past season ensured a berth in the UEFA Europa League. They also won the Turkish Cup.

Salah should add more goal-scoring punch to the Turkish side. Paul Onuachu had a fantastic season for Trabzonspor in 2025-26, scoring 22 goals in 30 league matches, though rumors have suggested that other clubs might have interest in landing him on the transfer market this summer. Landing Salah might make Trabzonspor more open to such inquiries.
