Can Anything Be Done to Save the WWE Divas Division?
The WWE has been the most powerful wrestling organization in the world for years. Their use of big spectacle mixed with skits and wrestling has earned them fans from all over the globe.
One complaint however seems to stand out among the rest, and that is the lack of quality in their women's wrestling division.
Vince McMahon and the rest of the WWE crew seem to be under the impression that all wrestling fans want to see from women wrestlers is hot bodies and skimpy outfits, and while this may be the case with some people, it is not the consensus.
I have been a lifelong wrestling fan, and when I first started watching women's wrestling was still on the back burner in WWE. They had a few talents like Alundra Blayze, Bull Nakano, Luna Vachon, and Bertha doing most of the work while they brought in jobbers sometimes to fill the gaps.
Since then the WWE has featured women more prominently in the forefront of its programming, but they have not been showcasing women's wrestling as much as they have the women in general.
About seven years ago the WWE had amazing women wrestlers like Trish Stratus, Mickie James, Ivory, Jackie, and Victoria having matches that were on par with some of the men.
These women were taking bumps through tables, having cage matches, and putting on genuinely good wrestling, while still looking sexy.
Now we have women like Alicia Fox and Kelly Kelly in the limelight. While attractive, they offer very little in the way of great matches. Even Gail Kim is stuck in crappy matches and storylines and she proved she is a great wrestler in TNA.
I was getting my fill of decent matches with women from TNA until Hogan and company came in and decided not to feature the women as much.
When Hogan first arrived the highest rated segments of TNA week to week were the women's matches. The talent is still there, but not the TV time.
What WWE should do is capitalize on the TNA female talent being upset over low pay by grabbing up the best they have and starting fresh with a newly revived Divas Division.
People like Sarita, Taylor Wilde, Angelina Love, Hamada, Tara, and Awesome Kong could make the WWE's women's division interesting again while teaching the current Divas how to be better wrestlers.
Mickie James recent release came as a shock to many as she was considered the best wrestler in the division, and now I don't even know who I would say is best since they all seem to be underwhelming.
Melina is due for a comeback, but even she cannot save the Divas from peril at this point.
If Stephanie were to take her dad's place as head of the company at some point I think she would make an effort to push the women better, but we won't know unless it happens.
Michelle McCool is decent, but when paired with the talent that is available she looks less than stellar in the ring.
I hope for the sake of the fans and the Divas that WWE gets their head out of their ass soon and realizes that there is a market for good women's wrestling in this world.
