Tuesdays At TNA: Is Fourtune the Answer?
Welcome back to Tuesdays at TNA, in which we discuss all of the hottest topics happening in Dixieland!
A few months ago I wrote an article discussing the possibility of re-creating the Four Horsemen in TNA, with 16-time World Champion Ric Flair as the mouthpiece of the group. Many of you discussed some of the possible participants in the stable and how they could benefit, from former TNA champion AJ Styles to Desmond Wolfe and Beer Money.
Now it looks as if it is coming to fruition, but under the name Fourtune (or Fortune, I'm not quite sure how they're spelling it yet). Spelling issues aside, it could be the next supergroup in TNA if done right. TNA is known for their insistence on creating dominant stables from the days of Planet Jarrett, Team Canada, and the Main Event Mafia. While the initial setup of each group was successful, the endings have all fizzled due to the lack of a satisfying finale with whatever face group they are battling at the time.
That said, I do believe that this could be the next dominant force in TNA if done correctly. Even with the "They" storyline that seems to be leading to a return of old ECW superstars, the Fourtune group could steal the headlines with a mix of veterans and TNA homegrown talent. Let's take a look at how this can develop, and the major players in the storyline:
Kazarian: It's obvious that they are setting up "The Future" as Flair's next protege based on what we've seen on Impact. His heel turn has been done well, and it will be interesting to see how his apparent battle with Flair's former protege will develop. Kazarian recently took a loss to both Kurt Angle and to Flair's most recent nemesis Jay Lethal but has grown into more of an all-around wrestler under his tutelage. I see him possibly getting the chance to hold the X-Division gold once again as a member of Fourtune.
AJ Styles : The former World Champion has fallen out of favor with Flair after suffering the loss of his championship. He is now on the cusp of feuding with Kazarian for the top spot within the group, but it looks as if he will be the odd man out. This could lead to Styles-Flair at Bound for Glory in October.
Beer Money : Tag team specialists Robert Roode and James Storm are the enforcers of the group. They have a tag team title match against the Motor City Machine Guns at Victory Road and can establish their presence by winning the tag team titles. It would make for more excitement if the MCMGs were chasing Beer Money all the way to BFG and finally winning the belts.
Desmond Wolfe: Although he has come out on the losing end of his feud with Abyss and possibly losing the services of Chelsea, he can recover his stature as a force in TNA by becoming a member of Fourtune. Wolfe fits the profile of someone who would benefit from Flair's tutelage. He could be a nice addition and possibly bring prominence to the Global Championship division.
Matt Morgan : This might come as a surprise, but I believe that Morgan is one of the most dominant heels in TNA today. Since the "we" storyline ended with him losing the tag team gold, I believe he could be the muscle that makes Fourtune a threat in TNA. Although he is currently in a feud with former tag team partner Hernandez, he has pretty much been stuck in the midcard for quite some time, and will need a change of direction. By having him join up with Flair's stable he can become groomed for the World Championship should they move RVD into the ECW storyline.
This story could be a nice main event battle in TNA that will give the younger stars a chance to shine with great feuds and matches. Also, Flair's presence will provide legitimacy that can attract the casual fans while the hardcore TNA fans can be drawn into the up-and-coming wrestlers showing their skills in the limelight.
