WWE Raw: The White Russian Review

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 29, 2010

Last night's WWE Monday Night Raw started out with Sheamus in the ring stating that he will never give John Cena another shot at his title.

Of course, Cena's music hit and he made his way to the ring.

Cena then did something that Sheamus did not see coming: he asked for his help.

Cena made a big speech about how Raw should start off with a brawl between himself, Sheamus, and the NXT rookies.

The new GM sent another e-mail, chiming with an annoying sound throughout the arena. The email stated that Cena and Sheamus could not attack the Nexus and Nexus could not attack WWE superstars.

Cena said because Sheamus was already there, they should have another match right then and there.

BING. Another email from the anonymous GM stating that the match would happen at "Money in the Bank" later this month, inside a steel cage.

The first segment went way too long for not having any action to it. The anonymous GM was interesting at first, but now is wearing thin.

I predict that Michael Cole is the new GM.

We saw the Hart Dynasty make their way to the ring, only to be cut off by the Usos and Tamina.  These two teams have had a hell of a build up. They need to stop with the sneak attack angle. Have some singles matches between the two teams once in awhile.

The Usos have only been in WWE a couple months, but are already involved in a title hunt. WWE must see something in the third generation wrestlers.

In interviews, R.Truth focuses on the Nexus, while Khali's handler, Runjin Singh, walks off after calling Khali a dumb giant.

Looks like we may see something new from Khali with his translator leaving.

Kozlov and Santino had a terrible four minute match. After the match, Regal tried to attack Santino, but Kozlov saved him.  These three guys have been stuck in a stale storyline that no one cares about for too long.

Let's get Kozlov back in the hunt for gold, maybe the US title to start him off.

Sheamus faced Mark Henry in yet another boring match. Henry is disliked by the crowd more than I would have expected. Henry is one of those guys who they either need to give a title or release. He has been stagnant for way too long.

Josh Matthews interviewed Nexus. Barrett was not there due to issues with his work visa so the other six tried their best to run the show. They said that the ban on attacking superstars doesn't matter: a backstage worker got attacked to show what they meant.

Jerry Lawler got in the ring and introduced the star of WWE's newest DVD, Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. Steamboat got a huge ovation, which he deserves. It's nice to see the younger fans appreciating the trailblazers.

Lawler and Ricky were soon joined by Mike Rotunda, Michael PS Hayes, Dean Malenko, and Arn Anderson.  This segment was a nice way to show Steamboat the respect that he deserves with all his backstage friends there to support him.

However, this awesome segment was ruined when the NXT guys made their way out and destroyed the legends. I get why they did it, I just don't think they needed to. This was a potentially great moment ruined by an angle that is becoming boring.

Alicia Fox and Maryse beat Gail Kim and Eve Torres in a match I fast forwarded through. The Divas are a joke these days. If the WWE wants them to be taken seriously, they need to train them better.

The main event was an eight-man tag match featuring the participants of the upcoming Raw Money in the Bank match. The match was full of little spots that caught the eye, but the ending was the best part when DiBiase and Orton received simultaneous tags.

DiBiase ran right into an RKO to end the match, and the eight guys fought over who would climb the ladder and take down the strange red case.

Orton, holding the briefcase, made it to the top of the ladder to close the show.

Overall, I was very disappointed in this Raw.

Rob Zombie was terribly underused, considering we usually have three or four guest host segments. Zombie was the only host in months I have actually looked forward to.

But, the worst thing about last night's show was that other than the attack on the Hart Dynasty by the Usos, there was no ring action for the first 50 minutes of the show. Unbelievable!

A lot of WWE talents are injured right now, but they had enough people available to come up with better matches than they had.

I would give the show a 2/5...and I'm being generous.
