Evander Holyfield Says Manny Pacquiao Is Bigger Draw Than Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Leo ReyesJun 25, 2010

WBF heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield says Manny Pacquiao is a bigger draw than Floyd Mayweather and therefore a 60/40 purse sharing in favor of Mayweather won't work.

Pacquiao is expected to draw more people into a fight than Mayweather, which is why the latter doesn’t deserve the “bigger cut of the pie”, he added.

In a recent interview by Brad Cooney of 8countboxingnews , Mayweather says, “Pacquiao has a big crowd of people that wants to see him win because of his good attitude.”

Asked about the reported 60/40 demand by Mayweather in his favor, Holyfield said:

"I don't think that's going to work. It's not Floyd that will bring the crowd. What makes this fight bigger than life is the good and bad thing. When people see Pacquiao, they look at him as the good guy, they want to see him win morally.

These are the people that don't like Mayweather, so what makes this fight big is the ultimate good and evil. It is surprising that two small guys like that can bring it out. It only happens once in a while. Just like Tommy Hearns and Duran, and Sugar Ray Leonard did.

Pacquiao has a big crowd of people that wants to see him win because of his good attitude. Whoever he fights, he gives it his all. He's not gong to go in there and just put on a show that's not productive. I don't think that 60/40 is going to work."

Holyfield said he is fighting again in August and will have one more to go before the end of the year. He said he hopes to face any one of the Klitschko brothers next year.

Last month, Tomasz Adamek's camp showed interest in a possible fight with Holyfield.

Holyfield's popularity soared when he defeated Mike Tyson in 1996 via TKO to win the WBA heavyweight crown.

In a rematch after a year, Tyson was disqualified after he bit Holyfield on one of his ears and was deducted two points by the referee. He was allowed to continue after the ring doctor intervened but Tyson again bit the other ear of Holyfield and the referee finally disqualified the "Ironman".

Holyfield who is 47, said he will continue fighting and hope to capture his 5th world title.
