Auction league- Bidding on players rather than using a draft

ADP- Average draft position. This can be helpful when doing your rankings. It tells you the average of when a player is being drafted throughout the drafts that have taken place so far.

Bye or Bye Week- Every NFL team has one week off during the regular season, which is known as a bye week. It is important to keep this in mind when drafting, as having too many starters on a bye in any given week could pose a problem.

Cheat Sheet- A listing of players in order of how they are predicted to do during the fantasy season. Any particular cheat sheet may have to be adjusted according to league scoring rules.

Commissioner- The person running the league you are in.

Cut/Drop- Removing a player from your roster.

Depth Chart- Shows the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string players at any given position for each NFL team.

Live Draft- The process of picking your team in which each team must choose a player within a specified time limit for each pick.

Auto Draft- The process of picking your team in which picks are made automatically based on a list of player rankings.

Dynasty League- A long term league in which players on your roster are kept on a year to year basis. Drafts are only held as a way to improve a team, but not to make up the entire team.

Keeper League- Similar to a dynasty league except only a certain number of players are kept from year to year instead of the entire whole roster.

FF or FFB- Fantasy football

Flex-A position on your starting team that can be filled by players from more than one position. Typically a flex player is a choice of either a RB or WR.

Free Agent- A player who is not on the roster of any teams in the league you are in.

Handcuffing- Drafting your starting running back’s backup.

Lineup-  Your starters for the week.

Mock draft-  A fake draft that is used as preparation for a real draft.

Owner/General Manager- The person who is in control of the fantasy team.

Pickup-  A player that you have added to your roster.

Projections- Similar to a cheat sheet except that it includes predicted statistics for each player.

RBBC- Running back by committee. Indicates that a particular NFL team uses more than one running back regularly rather than just having one starter.

Serpentine or Snake Draft- A draft that goes from top to bottom in the first round and then bottom to top in the second round and continues that way throughout the entire draft. EXAMPLE: In a 10 team league, the player with the number one pick will not pick again until picks no. 20 and 21, as the tenth team would pick tenth in the first round and then first in the second round and the order for the second round would continue down from 10 to 1. Easily put, it means that odd number rounds have a normal order, while the order will be reversed for even numbered rounds.

Bust-  A player that has performed well below their expected numbers. Also applies to pre-draft analysis as summing up a player who is expected to be drafted in the first few rounds who will likely not live up to their hype.

Sleeper-  A draft term for a player that is expected to have a breakout season.

Stud-  A proven top –scoring fantasy player that should be in the starting lineup every week regardless of who they are playing against.

Waiver- When a team drops a player, they are considered on waivers for all other teams in the league to add to their roster. Teams are awarded players on waivers based on the league waiver order.

Transaction-  Any roster change including adding/dropping players and trades.
