Mayweather The Best? There Is No Debate
By Troy A. Sparks
You may have heard Floyd Mayweather Jr. say on HBO's "24/7" that he's better than Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson. The truth is, he is.
I'm making a claim that's based on Mayweather's boxing record. All wins, no losses.
I'm too young to remember who Robinson lost to, but I know Ali lost to Joe Frazier, Leon Spinks and Larry Holmes. Never mind if the Frazier and Spinks fights were re-matches. The point is, Ali still lost.
Mayweather took a break from boxing, did some dancing and other stuff and came back from retirement to whip some more butt.
This is something for everyone who commented on the last Mayweather article I wrote: "Money" talked trash and treated all his opponents like trash after almost beating them to a pulp.
With barely a scratch on Mayweather, that's why some call him "Pretty Boy Floyd."
Michael Jordan talked some trash on the court, and he won six NBA championships. By contrast, Charles Barkley was a trash-talker and won no titles.
To my knowledge, the only boxer who retired undefeated was Rocky Marciano. I think Mayweather should retire after he beats Manny Pacquiao, if Manny has the stones to fight Mayweather.
Why should Mayweather fight anyone else?
I think Ricky Hatton and his British brawling style learned the hard way after bowing out to Mayweather after issuing a challenge. So did Marquez, Clottey and now, Mosley.
What can the two partners in Golden Boy Productions say now, Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya? They both went on the George Lopez show on wishful thinking that Mosley would win.
Mosley's sparing partner, trainer, and everybody else in his camp also believed it.
Okay, enough of that. There's no debate on who the best fighter ever is. If you need more proof, ask Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Roger Mayweather.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. You can reach me at sparkstroy@hotmail.com.
