Redskins ready for free agency

Mark ButerbaughFeb 25, 2010

The Washington Redskins are well into their preparations for the NFL free agency season, which begins in a few days. The Skins need a ton of stuff, as evidenced by their dismal 4-12 record last season. It's an uncapped season in 2010 so owner Dan Snyder's checkbook could be open wider than ever before -- though that has never really been a good thing in the past.

Comcast Sports reports that the Redskins will allow unrestricted free agent C Casey Rabach to leave, making no effort to re-sign him. I'm fine with that since I think Rabach had possibly his worse season as a pro last year [he wasn't the only one on the offensive line who can say that] and since he's on the wrong side of 30, bringing him back now makes little sense.

Comcast Sports also reports that the Redskins intend to seriously pursue LB Karlos Dansby, a 28-year-old for the Arizona Cardinals. At 6'4" and 250 pounds Dansby is just barely big enough to play middle linebacker in a 3-4 defense, if that's what Head Coach Mike Shanahan and Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett decide to do.

Meanwhile, Pro Football Weekly reports:

All signs point now to the Redskins keeping QB Jason Campbell another year.Mike Shanahan reportedly was impressed with Campbell's toughness last season, when he took a lot of hits behind a poor offensive line. Bringing Campbell back, it should be noted, also might come along with the team drafting a quarterback, perhaps even with the No. 4 overall pick.

The Vikings are looking like a team that is prepared to move on without RBChester Taylor. Although they appreciate Taylor quite a bit and would like to retain him, they know they probably can't afford to keep him at the salary and opportunity he's likely to get elsewhere.
