2010 NFL Mock Draft and Eric Berry: How Far Down Does He Slide?

Tanner ThomsFeb 20, 2010

1. St. Louis Rams—Ndamukong Suh, Defensive Tackle, Nebraska

I'm honestly torn on whether or not the Rams will go with a franchise quarterback like Jimmy Clausen or a defensive tackle that can be a force from the very get-go.

Checking out several sites, it's clear that St. Louis fans want Ndamukong Suh to be the pick.

At 6'4", 305 lbs, Ndamukong Suh is the best overall player in this draft. The Rams will have great success on defense with him anchoring the line for years to come.

2. Detroit Lions—Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle, Oklahoma

The Lions will miss out on the superior Suh, but they will be thankful to get a great talent like Gerald McCoy.

McCoy is a great defensive tackle, and Mike Mayock considers him to be the best overall prospect in the draft.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers—Jason Pierre-Paul, Defensive End, South Florida

No defensive back has ever been taken in the top three picks. This prevents me from having the Buccaneers take Eric Berry.

Although I think Berry is a top three talent, Tampa Bay will probably look to address a more pressing issue.

Jason Pierre-Paul had the only decent season in his college career. Personally, I think this would be a bad pick, but it seems like a likely one for the Bucs franchise.

4. Washington Redskins—Jimmy Clausen, Quarterback, Notre Dame

Washington is a team that has many options for this pick, including Jimmy Clausen, Sam Bradford, Russell Okung, Anthony Davis, and Bruce Campbell.

Washington will likely tender Jason Campbell, but that doesn't mean he will be there for years to come. The Redskins will likely try to snag a quarterback that can start in 2011.

5. Kansas City Chiefs—Russell Okung, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State

If Kansas City is a team with any sense of knowledge whatsoever, they will take Russell Okung with the fifth pick.

Anthony Davis' stock has been improving lately, but I still don't see him as a better offensive tackle than Okung.

6. Seattle Seahawks—Eric Berry, Safety, Tennessee

This seems like a good spot for Eric Berry to be drafted. The Seahawks are a team that is desperate for help in the secondary.

If Seattle were to pass on Berry, it would be a shock. He's a great talent that can both cover receivers and tackle very well.

7. Cleveland Browns—Joe Haden, Cornerback, Florida

Cleveland's focus in this draft will be primarily on defense. They need to find players that can actually stop both the run and the pass.

Joe Haden has been criticized for not being a good tackling corner, but his ability to cover will overshadow everything else.

8. Oakland Raiders—Bruce Campbell, Offensive Tackle, Maryland

Oakland has many options here, but the best choice would be to go with an offensive tackle that will create lanes for Oakland's running backs.

Bruce Campbell is a massive athlete at 6'7", 315 lbs, but he can still run a 4.9.  Al Davis loves speed, as we all know.

9. Buffalo Bills—Anthony Davis, Offensive Tackle, Rutgers

Buffalo traded away Jason Peters for a first-round pick last year, but failed to draft an offensive tackle in the 2009 draft.

If the Bills don't get a solid offensive tackle, their ability to run the ball will be very limited.  Anthony Davis is exactly what the Bills need at pick No. 9.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars—Derrick Morgan, Defensive End, Georgia Tech

I have heard from several people who say that Derrick Morgan is just like Derrick Harvey—thus, it would be a bad pick.

Although they may be similar in stature, that does not necessarily mean that they will be the same form of "bust".

11. Denver Broncos—Sam Bradford, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Sam Bradford says he won't work out at the combine, so his stock probably won't go much higher than it is right now.

Kyle Orton had a good year for the Broncos, but he's not the future of the franchise. Sam Bradford is a player Denver fans can be excited about for years to come.

12. Miami Dolphins—Rolando McClain, Middle Linebacker, Alabama

This will be a great choice for the Dolphins. Akin Ayodele cannot handle himself in the middle any longer.

Rolando McClain is very underrated, in my opinion. He could be a top 10 pick with a strong combine, but at this point he's good at No. 12.

13. San Francisco 49ers—Bryan Bulaga, Offensive Tackle, Iowa

Bryan Bulaga is incredibly underrated. He missed a few games for the Hawkeyes this year, but he's still a great talent.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Bulaga ended up being the stud offensive tackle of the whole entire draft.

14. Seattle Seahawks—Brian Price, Defensive Tackle, UCLA

Lately, I've been thinking that Brian Price would be a solid pick for the Seahawks. They only totaled 28 sacks all year long.

They need to seriously address their aging defensive line in the draft. Brian Price will be a great start.

15. New York Giants—Dan Williams, Defensive Tackle, Tennessee

Fred Robbins turns 33 years old in less than a month. He is also a free-agent-to-be this offseason.

Dan Williams is a monster that dominated for the Volunteers last season. He will be a great fit for New York's defense.

16. Tennessee Titans—Carlos Dunlap, Defensive End, Florida

Although I don't condone the antics of Carlos Dunlap, there is no denying that this guy is a heck of a player.

If he is able to put his immaturity behind him, Dunlap has the potential to be a star defensive lineman in the NFL.

17. San Francisco 49ers—Sergio Kindle, Hybrid Linebacker, Texas

San Francisco has a ton of options with their second pick of the first round. But at pick 17, the 49ers will go with a rush linebacker.

Sergio Kindle is a great pick here. He's somebody that can get to the quarterback in a hurry.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers—Earl Thomas, Safety, Texas

Although the Steelers have publicly claimed that Ryan Clark, Casey Hampton, and Jeff Reed are their top priorities, Pittsburgh could still use a safety.

Earl Thomas is a talented player that can pick off the pass and tackle as well. He's the total package.

19. Atlanta Falcons—Everson Griffen, Defensive End, USC

This pick could either be a defensive end or an outside linebacker like Sean Weatherspoon out of Missouri.

Everson Griffen will be a great pick, though. He's got the size and potential to be a stud on their defensive line.

20. Houston Texans—Dez Bryant, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma State

With Kevin Walter set for free agency, Houston will likely be searching for a wide receiver early in the draft.

It will take a lot for Dez Bryant to fall this far, but I think he somehow doesn't make it in the top 19 picks.

21. Cincinnati Bengals—C.J. Spiller, Running Back, Clemson

Even though Cedric Benson had the best season of his career, Cincinnati could use a change-of-pace back like Spiller.

C.J. Spiller is the most dynamic player in this draft, by far. He can catch the ball in the backfield and run it for big yards.

22. New England Patriots—Jermaine Gresham, Tight End, Oklahoma

Despite missing all of his senior season, Jermaine Gresham is worth taking in the first round.

Ben Watson is scheduled to be a free agent in a couple weeks. He's been in New England his whole career, but he could look to go elsewhere in 2010.

23. Green Bay Packers—Charles Brown, Offensive Tackle, USC

Once again, my mind hasn't changed on this pick. Green Bay needs an offensive tackle. Charles Brown is available. Perfect.

He's the perfect fit for the Packers offensive scheme. He also will help to keep Aaron Rodgers on his feet for a change.

24. Philadelphia Eagles—Kyle Wilson, Cornerback, Boise State

There is a good chance that Sheldon Brown might not be in an Eagles uniform in 2010.

Kyle Wilson has quicky emerged as the second best cornerback in the draft, behind Joe Haden. He will be great for the Eagles.

25. Baltimore Ravens—Brandon LaFell, Wide Receiver, LSU

Baltimore is going to be in serious trouble if they decline to address their lack of play-making receivers this offseason.

There is a chance they will trade for Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin but, if not, they will need one in the first round.

26. Arizona Cardinals—Trent Williams, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma

Although somebody like Brandon Graham seems intriguing as a rush-linebacker, an offensive lineman is what the Cardinals need.

Trent Williams could go well before this, but I see him taking a small slide due to the fact that there are four offensive tackles that are better.

27. Dallas Cowboys—Taylor Mays, Safety, USC

Taylor Mays could have been a top-10 pick last year, but he decided to stay in school. Not smart, Taylor.

At 6'3", 235 lbs, Taylor Mays is an athletic freak who could easily run a 4.3 40 at the combine.

28. San Diego Chargers—Jared Odrick, Defensive Lineman, Penn State

San Diego's defensive line will need a lot of help if Luis Castillo is unable to stay healthy for the majority of the season.

Jared Odrick can play both defensive end and defensive tackle. San Diego can use him at both spots for years to come.

29. New York Jets—Brandon Graham, Hybrid Linebacker, Michigan

The Jets number one priority this offseason will be to get a rush-linebacker that will get to the quarterback quickly.

Vernon Gholston is not panning out whatsoever at this point. Perhaps it's time for New York to move on to bigger and better things.

30. Minnesota Vikings—Sean Weatherspoon, Outside Linebacker, Missouri

Ben Leber is reliable most of the time, but he's certainly no star at weakside linebacker.

Sean Weatherspoon is a great player who performed very well in the North vs. South game. He will be a great fit for the Vikings' defense.

31. Indianapolis Colts—Mike Iupati, Offensive Guard, Idaho

Indianapolis is a team that doesn't have too many needs, but a new staring guard would certainly help.

Mike Iupati is one of the best blocking guards to ever come out in the draft. The Colts would be smart to take him.

32. New Orleans Saints—Navorro Bowman, Outside Linebacker, Penn State

Perhaps a reach for the Saints, but they really need to address their outside linebacker positions that struggled incredibly in 2009.

Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle aren't going to be able to cut it any longer. Greg Williams will want a young outside linebacker to teach towards stardom.
