Monta Ellis Back To Normal?

Trey BotkinFeb 20, 2010

I have never seen an NBA team depend so dearly on a young star athlete. In this case, the Golden State Warriors and 24-year-old Monta Ellis.

Ellis suffered a sprained left knee February 8 against Dallas, and then played February 19 against the Utah Jazz.

Ouch.

After his performance, coach Don Nelson may need to re-think his original idea of playing Monta Ellis 28 minutes. He shot 2 of 14 from the field but also added six assists and two steals. He looked a tad slow, and was awfully careful with the knee.

Maybe Nelson should think of playing Ellis in three or four minute intervals to get his rhythm back.

After all, Ellis is the fifth-leading scorer in the NBA, scoring 26 a game, adding five assists, and stealing the ball three times a game. He is a premiere all star in the league, and often overlooked.

Watching ESPN as much as I do, the NBA analysts often don't mention him of top scorers. Is it because he was gone a couple years ago for so long that they forgot him?

The Warriors missed Ellis for three games. In those three games, they won two, even though they struggled on defense.

Ellis will come back to 100% soon, whether it be at their next game or by the end of next week. He is one of the best guards in the NBA, and nobody can stop him from coming back.
