Peter King on Carson Wentz: 'My Early Money's' on Colts Landing Eagles QB
Carson Wentz wants to be a starter. Jalen Hurts looks like the starter in Philadelphia. With the Eagles' quarterback situation potentially coming to a head this offseason, speculation about Wentz's possible exit has already begun.
Peter King of NBC Sports wrote his "early money's on" the Indianapolis Colts as a strong suitor for Wentz, who at this point may relish a change of scenery. The Colts already have a veteran under center in Philip Rivers, but he's 39 and playing on a one-year contract. There are no guarantees he will even want to return in 2021.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Wentz appears headed for an acrimonious exit from Philadelphia. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Wentz has "no interest" in serving as a backup, hours before Hurts further entrenched himself as the Eagles' starter with a stellar outing against the Arizona Cardinals.
While the Eagles may even prefer to move on from Wentz, his contract makes any deal complicated. His contract is fully guaranteed for the 2021 season and comes with a $59.2 million dead-cap charge if he's released or $33.8 million if he's traded.
With his 2022 base salary guaranteeing on the third day of the 2021 league year, Wentz and the Eagles may be stuck with each other unless some other team sees a buy-low opportunity. Any trade would see Philadelphia take a massive loss—both financially and in draft capital—from the investment the organization has made in Wentz.
The 2017 Pro Bowler, who looked every part of a franchise quarterback despite dealing with injuries early in his career, has fallen off a cliff in 2020. He threw for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns against an NFL-high 15 interceptions before being replaced by Hurts ahead of Week 14's game against the New Orleans Saints. Football Outsiders' DYAR metric ranked him as by far the worst quarterback in the NFL.
Should the Colts show interest, Wentz would be smart to run, not walk, to Indianapolis. The Colts boast one of the NFL's best offensive lines, a blessing for a quarterback who has been battered throughout his NFL career and was sacked 50 times before being benched this season.
