Jurgen Klopp Will Prepare Liverpool for Champions League Final with 'Pre-Season'

Christopher SimpsonMay 14, 2019

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he'll put his players through a "pre-season" in preparation for their UEFA Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur

The Premier League finished on Sunday, leaving the Reds and Spurs with a three-week gap until the final on June 1.

Klopp told Liverpool's official website:

"We have to do a couple of things in preparation for the Champions League [final], media stuff.

"We have to do that, then the boys will have a couple of days off, and then we have two proper weeks as a pre-season for the Champions League final.

"We will do that, we will play that, [hopefully] win it, come home and then the people [would] get what they deserve."

The break will give the players a well-earned rest after a long season, but it also presents a challenge in terms of keeping players match fit in the interim.

Miguel Delaney of The Independent questioned why the English season began so early:

Per the Mirror's James Whaling, Liverpool will head to Spain for a five-day training camp on Monday, which he also did ahead of last season's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The Reds lost 3-1 after losing Mohamed Salah to injury in the first half, with goalkeeper Loris Karius gifting Los Blancos two goals.

Liverpool have been a force to be reckoned with this season, though:

The Merseyside outfit have won nine of their 14 meetings with Tottenham in all competitions since a 2-1 defeat in 2012, losing just once in that time.

They won both matches with Spurs this season 2-1, so they'll be favourites to lift the trophy at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Preparing well will be key to maximising their chances. Given the intensity the two sides are capable of producing, neither will want to be caught cold early on.
