Drills

For the fitness component of the combine, players will undergo physicals conducted by medical professionals and their measurements (height with and without shoes, weight, reach and wingspan) will be taken.

Additionally, their strength will be tested on the bench press, where they'll do as many reps as possible with 185 pounds. Unlike the NFL Scouting Combine, where the bench press gets a lot of attention, many players elect to skip this test.

Next is the standard vertical jump, which is a potential viral moment for the players with elite athleticism. This is where Zion Williamson will likely create a buzz.

Then it's on to the three-quarter court sprint, the reactive shuttle run and lane agility drills.

From there, they'll move to the shooting drills, which will be broken down into three categories: on-the-move shooting, off-the-dribble shooting and spot-up shooting.

This is where shooters with a skill for knocking down three-pointers can separate themselves in front of scouts and coaches.

Of course, not all of the players will participate in all the drills. More often than not, it's the players who have something to prove who will try to check all the boxes.

The combine should be a great event to watch for basketball nerds, despite Kevin Durant's assertion that it's a "waste of time."

Durant told ESPN.com's Chris Haynes:

"Stay your ass home, work out and get better on your own time. I remember it like it was yesterday. All the strength coaches were laughing at me and s--t. They were giggling with each other that I couldn't lift 185 pounds, and I was like, 'All right, keep laughing. Keep laughing.' It was a funny thing, because I was the only one that couldn't lift it and I was struggling to lift it. I was embarrassed at that point, but I'm like, 'Give me a basketball, please. Give me a ball.'"
