LSU Fans Boo Jayden Daniels' Name During 'NFLSU' Segment amid No. 5 Jersey Dispute in New Video
Following the hubbub over LSU's use of the No. 5 jersey, it's clear that there's no love lost between Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and his alma mater.
When Daniels' name appeared on the video screen at Tiger Stadium during the "NFLSU" segment at Saturday night's season opener against Clemson, LSU fans were seen booing the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner:
During a lightning delay before LSU's 51-10 win over Clemson, another "NFLSU" segment played on the video screen that excluded Daniels while highlighting star alumni like Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Malik Nabers, Will Campbell and Patrick Queen, as well as 2026 NFL draft picks Mansoor Delane and Garrett Nussmeier.
Daniels wore No. 5 when he starred at LSU for two seasons. He sent the school a cease-and-desist letter following the decision to allow sophomore cornerback D.J. Pickett to wear the same number on his jersey this season.
"The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU's decision to give Jayden's number to another player," the statement from Daniels' spokesperson said. "Jayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university."
Pickett recorded two tackles in Saturday's win. He explained before the season why he chose the number.
"I've worn the number my whole life, since I was 4 years old," Pickett said last month. "It's the number I was promised [by LSU]. I wish Jayden the best. Good player, and he did real good here [at LSU]. So that's all."
It appears that Daniels and LSU have a lot of work to do to repair their relationship, as Tigers fans have turned on the star signal-caller.
