Marcus Capers: Klay Thompson Predicted Sweep of 'Defeated' Cavs Before Game 4
Klay Thompson had very little doubt that the Golden State Warriors were going to sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals last season.
His friend and former teammate at Washington State, Marcus Capers, told Jayson Jenks of The Athletic that Thompson predicted the sweep mid-series:
"I was going to get a flight for Game 5 of the Finals in Oakland. He was like, 'Nah, we're about to sweep this. We can tell, they're just defeated, so come to Cleveland.' After Game 3, they won and we were sitting there chilling. I was like, 'Alright, bro. What do you want to do?' We were just sitting there catching up. And as we were catching up, he brought out a Nintendo 64. Like, he traveled with it everywhere, and we played 'Super Smash Bros.' until probably 3 in the morning."
Thompson's former teammates also recounted the number of hours they spent playing Mario Kart, Call of Duty and Rock Band while they were together at Washington State.
"Great game," Thompson said of Rock Band. "Everyone got involved. Multiple instruments. A good way to learn and appreciate music."
But Thompson is still a fan of relaxing by playing games, and his Washington State teammate, Ben Loewen, also recounted a time he and his wife were hanging out with Thompson two years ago and Thompson suggesting the trio play some video games.
"He's a big kid trapped in a superstar's body," Loewen said. "He really is. He just wants to throw on some sweats and play video games and hang out. That's how he was the day I met him and I saw him just three weeks ago, and that's how he is today."
That big kid continues to be the man in the NBA, however, averaging 22.1 points per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 81 percent from the line and 39.6 percent from three. He's a big reason why the Warriors toasted the Cavaliers in last year's Finals, and he's a big reason why they're favored to win a fourth title in five seasons this year.
