Chiefs Rumors: Kelvin Benjamin Visiting Kansas City After Bills Release

Wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin is reportedly visiting the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday after being released by the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the free-agent visit.

Benjamin was a bust for the Bills after being acquired in an October 2017 trade with the Carolina Panthers. He registered just 39 receptions for 571 yards and two touchdowns across 18 appearances.

The 27-year-old Florida State product said last month the 2018 campaign hadn't lived up to expectations.

"It's just a bad season," Benjamin told reporters. "It is what it is. Just football, man. You have good seasons, you have bad seasons. I've had successful seasons in this league. I'll have plenty more. For some reason, it's just not the year."

While the Bills' unsettled quarterback situation throughout his short tenure in Buffalo played a role in his struggles, his inability to create separation against opposing cornerbacks was evident on a weekly basis and limits his upside moving forward.

Pro Football Focus graded him as the NFL's 109th-best wideout so far this season.

In Kansas City, Benjamin would provide depth at receiver behind Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Chris Conley as part of the team's high-powered passing attack. Watkins has missed time recently with a lingering foot injury, so the 6'5", 245-pound target could provide some insurance.

Most of his value to the Chiefs would likely come in the red zone after catching 16 touchdowns over his first two seasons in Carolina.
