Poor Chennai Falter in Chase
Daredevils and Super Kings came into Friday's fixture on opposite ends of the IPL spectrum, as the visitors had already qualified for the play-offs and Daredevils were in last place by a large margin.
For Chennai, play-off seeding was still vital, and for the most part, they did solid work with the ball in the first innings.
Cricbuzz broke down Delhi's knock, noting it was another disappointing affair until the final over:
Harshal Patel scored a quick unbeaten 36 from just 16 balls to power the total to 162, which still seemed reasonable for Chennai's explosive group of batsmen.
Super Kings fell behind the pace early, something that has plagued the team throughout this IPL campaign. While Ambati Rayudu recorded a half-century, his fellow batsmen couldn't bump up their strike rate during the first half of the innings, and Chennai's required run rate gradually increased.
It had climbed into the double digits with five overs left to play, and fans were anticipating another frantic finish from Dhoni. It was't to be, however, as Chennai never found another gear.
What's Next
Kolkata will try to book their play-off spot on Saturday in a possible final preview against Hyderabad. Rajasthan and Bangalore will also try to keep their play-off dreams alive.
