Stephen Curry on Injury: 'I Feel Great,' Not Worried About Knee
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry said he's "not worried" about a knee injury that forced him to miss six weeks before his May 1 return despite his mundane performance so far in the Dubs' clash with the Houston Rockets in the 2018 Western Conference Finals.
On Thursday, Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated provided comments from Curry, who's made just two of his 13 three-point attempts through the series' first two games.
"I feel good. I feel good," he said. "It's something that you can't shake off because of how recent the injury was. But I'm out there. I feel great, and I'm not worried about anything with my knee. I keep saying the same thing. I feel good."
Curry's baseline numbers in the series are actually solid. He's averaging 17 points, 7.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds as Golden State split the games at the Toyota Center in Houston to take home-court advantage.
That doesn't tell the entire story, though. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is shooting 44.1 percent from the field, including 15.4 percent from beyond the arc, while racking up four fouls per game and struggling against the explosive Rockets at the defensive end.
Curry is confident he'll leave his mark on the conference final before it's over, though.
"The [high] bar that I've set, that is my expectation as well," Curry told Spears. "If I don't live up to that, that's fine. It's a long series. I will make impactful plays on both ends. We'll be in good shape."
The Warriors are still a sizable favorite (-300, per OddsShark) to advance to the NBA Finals despite Curry's lackluster start to what's likely to become an extended battle with the Rockets.
That's the benefit to having such a star-studded roster, which also features Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Golden State doesn't need Curry to dominate to win games, even when it's this deep in a postseason run.
