Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart Address Celtics Playoff Road Woes

Alec NathanMay 17, 2018

The Boston Celtics aren't sweating their 1-4 road record in the playoffs as the Eastern Conference Finals gets set to descend upon Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

"My reaction is I can't wait for Game 3, and I'll just leave it at that," Brown said Thursday when asked about the team's road struggles, according to ESPN.com's Chris Forsberg

"I think we're pretty confident, just as confident as we were at home. There's a difference definitely between being on the road and at home, just the energy disparity. At home the energy is for you, away it's against you. But if you do what you're supposed to do and you are who you are, it'll show, home or away."

Marcus Smart, who played a pivotal role in giving the Celtics a 2-0 series lead over the Cavaliers, echoed that sentiment while reflecting on the club's inability to string together steady outings in enemy territory.

"We haven't played well. We understand that. We understand that other teams see that and are going to try to exploit it, but that's the beauty about this game," he said. "Just take one game. You never know. Things change. Our confidence is high. Who knows? We're going to go in with a game plan and try to execute it to the best of our ability."

To this point in the postseason, nine of Boston's 10 wins have come at home. The lone exception came in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, when the Celtics nabbed a 101-98 overtime win against the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center.

Otherwise, the results haven't been pretty

  • Celtics at home: 9-0, 47.1 FG%, 38.7 3P%, 10.8 net rating
  • Celtics on the road: 1-4, 41.1 FG%, 30.8 3P%, -9.4 net rating

The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are 5-1 at home in the postseason and will need to channel their success from the past two rounds in order to knot the Eastern Conference Finals at two games apiece.

Game 3 will get underway Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
