Derrick Favors on Free Agency: 'A Lot of Things to Think About This Summer'
Derrick Favors is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career, but he hasn't given any indication as to whether he will stay with the Utah Jazz or go elsewhere.
"We'll see how it goes," the power forward said of free agency Thursday, per Mike Sorensen of the Deseret News. "There will be a lot of things to think about this summer, but I can wait for that."
The 26-year-old has spent almost his entire eight-year career with the Jazz, agreeing to a four-year extension in 2013 that kept him on the books through the 2017-18 season.
While his best run came in the two seasons from 2014-16 when he averaged 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, he still remained an efficient player on both ends of the court over the past year.
Favors averaged 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game this season, knocking down a career-high 56.3 percent of his shots from the field. He started every game he played and was a key part of Utah's surprise success that saw the team reach the second round of the playoffs.
Although Donovan Mitchell got most of the headlines during the year, Favors ranked second on the team behind only Rudy Gobert with 8.0 win shares, per Basketball Reference.
The young core on the team could be a contributing factor toward potentially returning.
"I've been here through the tough times and I've been here through the good times, kind of like a relationship that you've been through so much together," he said. "There's no sense in breaking it up, so it will definitely play a factor with me, because I think this team has a bright future."
The Jazz will likely want to keep one of their top players on the roster, but Favors should have plenty of options after an impressive all-around season.
