Warriors News: Patrick McCaw Cleared for Basketball Activities After Back Injury

Scott PolacekMay 3, 2018

Golden State Warriors guard Patrick McCaw hasn't appeared in a game since suffering a lumbosacral bone bruise during a March 31 victory over the Sacramento Kings, but he is making progress in his recovery.

The Warriors announced he was re-evaluated Thursday and "is making steady functional progress and, as a result, has been cleared to begin modified on-court shooting and running drills. In addition to his on-court work, McCaw will continue to build his overall strength and conditioning under the guidance of the team's training staff. He will be re-evaluated again in four weeks."

This comes after Melissa Rohlin of the Bay Area News Group reported April 15 that McCaw said he had trouble sleeping at night due to the pain.

Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press granted the Thursday update was welcome news, "but it's clear his season is over."

McCaw suffered the injury when Kings swingman Vince Carter undercut him on a layup attempt, causing him to fall hard to the floor. He was stretchered off the court, and a number of people on each team—including Carter—were visibly distraught after the incident.

McCaw tweeted he knew Carter didn't intentionally try to hurt him.

The Warriors guard played in 57 games this season and averaged 4.0 points and 1.4 assists a night behind 40.9 percent shooting from the field.

Golden State is still in ideal position without him and leads the New Orleans Pelicans 2-0 in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.
