Antonio Callaway Admits to Smoking Weed, Talks Being Counseled by Antonio Brown

Joseph ZuckerApr 25, 2018

Florida Gators wide receiver Antonio Callaway admitted to having smoked marijuana following his positive test at the NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.

Callaway's agent, Malki Kawa, told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Callaway was flagged for a diluted sample, which effectively counts the same as a positive test under NFL guidelines.

According to Rapoport, Callaway said he spoke with Pittsburgh Steelers star Antonio Brown, who advised him, "There is too much opportunity to be messing up."

FanRag Sports' Jon Ledyard noted Brown and Callaway have built a strong relationship while the prospect has been preparing for the 2018 NFL draft, as Brown has "taken him under the wing some."

Police in Gainesville, Florida, cited Callaway for marijuana possession in May 2017. In August 2016, Title IX officers cleared Callaway of sexual assault allegations, in part because he said he was high on marijuana at the time of the alleged encounter.

Callaway's diluted sample is another setback after he missed the entire 2017 season. Florida suspended him last August for his role in a credit card scandal. Callaway and those involved reached a pretrial agreement last October that saw prosecutors drop third-degree felony charges of credit card fraud.

Callaway finished his college career with 89 receptions for 1,399 yards and seven touchdowns in 26 games. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller ranked him as the No. 14 receiver in the 2018 draft class and gave him a fourth-round grade while comparing him to former Florida star Percy Harvin.
